FYI: Changing the logic boards, will not guarantee you get (all) your data back.

Logic boards are programmed at the factory with the location(s) of bad sectors, and there ARE tons of bad sectors right off the factory floor. Also any time bad sectors have been marked by your operating system, these are also recorded to a "user" area on the logic board as well.

Should any of these already marked areas on the donor board, match up with "Good" areas on your drive, you WILL lose any data present in those sectors.

Try the freezer method first, double bag it in a ziplock. If you can't get everything you NEED off the drive, try another logic board, but expect what I mentioned previously...and to not get all your data back.

Sorry for the late post and maybe too late, but I've used Action Front Data Recovery before. They do a great job, but it costs. But they will send you a list of the files they can recover before they start. They've now been bought out by Seagate, I don't know if that affects what drives they will recover now https://services.seagate.com/ and they are in Markham.

I've also used software like RecoverMyFiles and what not with some success depending on what's wrong. Usually I use those for accidental deletion or non booting drives. If the drive isn't even recognized by the system I haven't got that one to work.
