First project dilemma: Mario-bros or Mario-bros wide-body

Postby Frank1977 » Fri Mar 10, 2017 10:34 pm

Hi,
I am thinking of building a Mario-bros cabinet with a MAME setup. My dilemma: Mario-bros regular cabinet or a Mario-bros wide-body cabinet. From what I see the main differences between the 2 cabinets are the width of the cabinets, the speaker positioning and the height of the control panel. I want to be able to play 2 players on this cabinet. Is the regular cabinet wide enough for 2 players? Or would I simply be better of with the wide-body Mario-Bros cabinet for 2 players? My last question is regarding the plans for these cabinets. I have found some plans for the regular Mario-Bros cabinet. But I haven’t found anything that would be accurate for the wide-body cabinet. Any idea where a rookie like myself could find plans for the wide-body version? Any specific websites to suggest?
By the way, anyone know the exact width difference between these 2 cabinets?
Thanks for your help! :)

This site has the best plans out there and the community behind it as well. I've been considering same for a long time. I want a real Nintendo cab but haven't had much luck getting one, I currently have a cocktail with a Pi but would rather a Nintendo.

You can def play two player on a standard cab, I've seen one made:

Here's a link to his build thread (very detailed, shared artwork, too) http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,96299.0.

Mike's arcade is a good place for every part you need (like a PROPER Asahi Seiko roll down coin mech face) including the only real Nintendo-style repro buttons.

Takeman on KLOV is currently reproducing the coin doors:

He has some 12 left, so if you're considering doing this and want it to be right hit that post.

Thanks for the great links! :) Some really interesting stuff.
I think I’m kind of leaning more towards the Mario-Bros non-widebody cabinet.
The plans seem to be more accurate then the plans for the wide body Mario-Bros cabinet.
But I'm still interested to know if anyone in this community has ever built a widebody Mario-Bros cabinet?
If so I would love to know how the build went and also what plans were used.
Anyone know the width for both of these cabinets?

Thanks again Shovelhed! :)

Thanks for the link Chnillapoil. :)
There are lots of cabinet plans on this website.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but the wide body plans don't seem accurate.
Shouldn't the speaker be centered on the wide-body cabinet?
It seems to be the plans for a regular DK / Popeye cabinet.

Thanks!

Jakobud as a rule is really awful. It's a solid resource to see how cabinets are laid out but the plans are mostly abysmal.
