Re: What did you do today in the hobby?
I decided a month or so ago that most things happen "offline" generally.
Many of us post "online" to help out, and let everyone "know" what we just did.
I am pretty sure that there is "very little reason" to continue to post online; without responses.
Cheers.
Salut.

Post online because it helps the hobby, not because you get an endorphin rush from a response. No one responds to my stuff, but I find out tonnes of people read it.
Either way, I hope you find peace with it. All of the little details all add and build towards this hobby. But if you need a break from online life, totally understood.

I agree with Cait.cait001 wrote: but I find out tonnes of people read it.
I want to add that there's a lot of posts that are not open ended. People still read them. They simply have nothing to add to the subject. But that doesn't mean that it wasn't a nice read.

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?
Today I got in to a sprawling and messy forum war on pinside because I said that it had major work to do in becoming more welcoming to women. After Molly (who operates 2 pinball arcades in LA) left pinside over this shit, turns out I was the only woman there debating my side of things against a bunch of men who were sick of being told that there was any real problem and goddamn feminists were ruining their hobby. FUN!
Oh but I also finally put my latest marquees on my wall: Gyruss, Space Odyssey, Missile Command and I, Robot! Looks damn good.
ALSO: Another reminder that I desperately searching for a SUPER SCORE backglass.

If you need a replacement locally I've bought tumblers at Lebaron on Merivale. Lyman Pro 1200 (i think) is the one I use now.

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?
I tried Montana Spider Effect paint to apply webbing to the Heat Wave backbox. FAIL -- the paint is too thick and the strings too long. Guess I'll be sanding it all off on Canada Day. The original webbing is very thin and diaphanous.
Next up I will try a mixture recommended by someone on pinside -- testors model glue, enamel paint and enamel thinner shot from an airbrush. Off to Great Hobbies at lunch!

Cool..thanks for the tip.. I looked around and couldn't find anything - bought this used piece of crap on ebay...luckily didn't spend anything on it. I'm going to try threadlocking all the bolts and see if that workscdnpinballer wrote:Sorry to hear that.miker_70 wrote:I received my tumbler today..then proceeded to take it apart as it pretty much exploded - walking across my basement floor after about 2 hours of use.

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?
Don't bother with the fancy "self-draining" tumbler models, all that happens is tiny stuff gets jammed in the slots. I got a Lyman tumbler at Lebaron and walnut media at PetSmart.
Use a metal pickup tool to fish small stuff out of the tumbler when it is done. Having a set of dental picks to pick walnut out is handy, you can get those at Active electronics or maybe Lee Valley. Too much work to clean screws I don't bother to tumble them any more. You can shine the heads up by sticking them in a drill chuck and spinning them on an old cloth with some Mother's aluminum polish on it.

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?
This place is great, no worries. The discussion was more about how toxic pinside could be. The thread got closed though, so that's done. Although some pinsiders took their crusade to anon chan sites and have decided to target me for being a feminist, but that's not appropriate really for here.Sparky wrote:I can't speak for the admins, but I would welcome any suggestions. Today I submitted pictures of my Bally Big Valley. It was one of my projects for the month of May, the other being the Bally Kick Off!
My game is a german re-import with an English BG. Yay! Little by little the pool of knowledge grows deeper.

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?
As you mentioned at the last get together (aka Pow Wow) at TerryZ's, this is one of the rare Bally multi-ball pins from the EM era that had sported three inch flippers and a ball saver instead of the zipper flipper configuration. Love learning stuff like that. Got to hand it to Bally, they were always trying diffierent stuff and certainly not as conservative in their designs as say, Gottlieb. Made for a balance of product choices for the operators in the industry back then as opposed to now I guess.

Very rare indeed. It's the only EM 3 ball Multiball game with 3 inch flippers.

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?
"This game is one of only three Bally electromechanical flipper pinball machines that has multi-ball but does not have zipper flippers. It has 3-inch flippers and an up-post instead of the 2-inch zipper flippers."
The above quoted from ipdb seems to indicate that there were two other EM pins by Bally with a similar flipper set up and a multi-ball feature as in Big Valley. From memory, I can not remember which ones they were.
The quote is misleading because it doesn't state whether Bally made multi-ball EM machines with non zippered 2" flippers (apart from the Balls are Poppin' which comes to mind) or even 3" flippers without a ball saver that were multi-ball play.
Another puzzle of the day, - for me at least.

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?
The other Bally EM non-zipper flipper multiball games were Star Jet and Mad world, both with 2 inch flippers.
Balls-a-Poppin sorta stands in a category of it's own. With the bunch of ball shooting up from the left side of the PF.

So the ipdb quote is therefore making reference to "Star Jet" and "Mad World" as being the "other two" multi-ball EMs from Bally without zipper flippers.Pindude152 wrote:The other Bally EM non-zipper flipper multiball games were Star Jet and Mad world, both with 2 inch flippers.

So if this is true, this means that Big Valley was the only EM multi-ball machine from Bally with 3" flippers and a ball saver as well ? Crazy.

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?
I'm taking it easy today after a 1350 km pinball adventure. To and Back Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu. Twice! For a bingo machine project and some amazing bingo parts. Meeting pinball fans along the way.
Thank You Hyann for the Sea Island, the parts and your time. Much appreciated.
Thank you Tonysoprano for your hospitality.
Thanks R.A.B. for the conversation. Always a pleasure!
