The final world on the Galaxian 3 6 player theater in Niagara Falls, Ontario

Postby SaraAB87 » Wed Aug 09, 2017 3:07 pm

After tracking down the R360, I recently wrote another article about the Namco Galaxian 3 6 player theater that was in Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada at the Minolta Tower. If anyone wants to know what happened to it, this is it.

Neat! Great post.

I've got to go down to Niagara Falls on business in October. Where should I play?

Hmmm, I am not sure, basically the entire Niagara area is like one big arcade, with arcades everywhere, but the games are extremely overpriced and are mostly redemption games. If you can hit groupon ahead of time and most of the places have huge discounts with groupon however the groupon places seem to charge a lot of taxes and fees once you try to redeem the groupon.

There isn't a lot of pinball, only a few machines around, if there are any at all, again its mostly kid redemption games with small, bad prizes.

The basement of the Skylon Tower is a must check, but I recommend sticking to the video games. There are some classic redemption games at the back of the Great Canadian Midway on Clifton hill too.

Why do we call them redemption games when they're clearly abominations? *Sigh*

Pinball is what I'm looking for, sadly. I suppose I'm spoiled here in Ottawa with two very large (and numerous smaller) pinball-focused venues.

If you are coming over the border to NY in Buffalo, NY there is Pocketeer billiards which would surely satisfy your pinball needs with over 40+ pinball machines. If you want to drive a bit farther to rochester, NY about 1.5 hours away from Buffalo, there is the strong museum of play with a permanent exhibit on pinball and many well maintained machines to play, but its going to require driving if you don't mind the driving and have the time. This is probably the closest place for pinball to Niagara, Ontario. I honestly don't know where to send you in Niagara, Ontario for pinball as I don't know of any place that has more than 1-2 machines, and I am not sure of the condition of those machines. I do know that Marineland park has several pinball machines in decent condition however they probably won't be open when you come up and admission is expensive. Token prices in the Niagara area are also 3-6x more if not more than what we pay here in NY for arcade tokens, basically the whole Niagara area is a ripoff for arcade games, and just about everything else.

I'm there three days on business (with business colleagues) so unfortunately border hopping is going to be out of the question this time. We're staying at the Hilton Fallsview. Thanks though! I'll just have to come down on my own some other time.

The Canadian Pinball Tracker has many pinballs listed for Niagara Falls.
Some of these have been confirmed very recently.

I just found out that Pocketeer has 59 pinball machines as of this writing, they seem to keep adding more! Next time you are in near you will have to plan for this for sure. The pinball machines here take american quarters so come prepared.

Fallsview is an ideal location since you are right in the middle of everything and can walk to everything. The basement of the skylon will just be minutes away on foot and you can enjoy the After Burner, Space harrier and Galaxy force in moving cabinets provided you are interested in those (and you should stop to see them just because they are so rare even if you don't spend any money there) plus all of the others. Use the down staircase from the Robinson street parking lot, back parking lot that is next to the Imax theater, coming from Fallsview this will be right in your backyard. Its the staircase right next to the staircase that is going up to enter basement of the skylon directly and bypass all the tourists, you don't want to climb the large up staircase because once you enter through that you will have to climb down the staircase from *** to get into the basement, just trust me on this unless you want to climb an insane stair case. The basement or lower level is free to enter either way you go. There is no pinball in the skylon tower anymore.

I only saw a couple pinballs last year when I went to clifton hill, maybe they added more since then, but it was like 1-2 machines per arcade.

Pocketeer looks like a worthwhile trip all on it's own, but definitely something to be separated from business. Very tempting.

Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely lead the crew on a little adventure.

Yes I kid you not, they should be in working condition, they seem to be holding up well, After Burner is a little squeaky but still works good. Of course I cannot 100% guarantee these machines will be there in working condition but the last time I went was in June and I know After Burner and Space harrier have been recently fixed. Everyone should play these games just to say they have done it. Its the only working Galaxy Force II Super Deluxe in the world other than the one at the Galloping Ghost arcade. You are right Pocketeer is probably a day trip in itself, I would post a picture of the skylon games but I don't want to spoil the surprise for anyone. The skylon basement is huge, make sure you walk around to see all the games, there are more moving cabinets than the ones I mentioned. If you have a problem with a game and can't find an attendant do not be afraid to open the office door that is under the escalator to get service.

I know there is a new arcade in Niagara by the Go-Kart track that is not opened yet, wonder if there are any pins in there. I am hoping to check out Marineland soon but for various reasons I might have to push my trip to Sept. and I don't know if I am going to make it at all, but if I make it I will be sure to check on the condition of machines, I know the tokens there are very expensive though, so I may not have spare tokens to play the pins.

Skylon tower basement arcade: i think i still have a VHS vid of me playing that very same Galaxy Force and also Power Drift full motion arcade machines back in the late 80's. I think they got rid of the Power Drift (very fun full motion machine!) and two years ago, Galaxy Force was busted when I went. Fun times!

If you can get that VHS online somehow I would be very grateful and would love to see the footage. It is true that the power drift is gone but the Galaxy force remains and is in working condition.
