Electronics Store - West Island

Postby Chris Silver » Sun Nov 17, 2013 3:35 pm

I realized today after calling my local "The Source" (formally Radio Shack) that unless you want a remote control car or a cell phone they are utterly useless. I called and asked the kid if they sell capacitors. After repeating myself a few times and say "C-A-P-A-C-I-T-O-R" not "compacitor" I politely hung up.

I remember as a kid, seeing the different build it yourself radios and various electronic kits they used to sell. I remember tearing apart my toys to take out the little lights and motors to make my own projects. Has society become so ________ that our future generations will end up throwing out lamps instead of changing the bulbs and buying new lawnmowers because they don't know how to change the oil?

I am in need of an electronics store on the West Island of Montreal. I'm learning and relearning about electronics. Because of owning pinball machines I need to replace all sorts of resistors, capacitors and diodes.

Can anybody lead me to a one stop shop for all my electronic needs?

Why do you feel the need for a local one-stop shop, Chris ?

Big Daddy Enterprises is another place I order from.

BTW, don't feel that you actually have to seek out this Ed fellow. I have ordered from GPE many times and have never met the man. 8-)

They do a good business though, and treat their customers well.

I just need a $0.50 cap the size of a dime and I'm dying to toss it in my Space Station to see if it'll solve my issue. Its a 0.1uF 500V capacitor across the flipper button switch. Unfortunately I still haven't found one within a reasonable distance. The place YellowMustard mentioned doesn't have them. OTTOgd mentioned a company that has them but they're in Nebraska. :(

I swear there has to be one somewhere close to me. I'd hate to go through shipping and the rest over such a foofy requirement.

Chris. Leaving Rob's (Starburst) going back to Canada stay on the service road and way before you hit boul. Des Sources, there is, on the right hand side, a place called Access O Tronics. Ask for Reggie. Tell him it's for a pinball and he will know who sent you. So far, the only thing that he has not had in stock was LED displays and transistors for my 96 Shaq. Ordered them and 3-4 days later they were there. Great prices. Awesome service. English or French. I can send you his direct email address if you want. Phone numer too if needed. Even for a sale of -$1.00 he will cross reference numbers for you. Cannot say enough about them. Will never buy enywhere else. ( I'm a snob !). Deposit needed on non stock items but I expect that. You won't be disappointed.

Access Electronics on Brunswick, near corner of Sources. It is facing the mall with the movie theater. They are a surplus store, but they will probably have it. I have been going there for years. They used to be Addison, until the owner had enough of the addison franchise bullshit and went on his own.

Yeah........NO. They are a surplus store and have only what they have! Been there, tried that, didn't buy FAWK ALL! I guess it depends on what you are looking for. Chris, one stop shopping. The other place is good, but I don't buy pinbll stuff there. IPod adaptors for the van. LED flashlight for a buck. The odd 4V mini light for the car. NOTHING PINBALL. But that's just me (i'm a snob!). Trust me.

Thanks guys. I'll probably be in Montreal early this week so I'll give them both a shot. I do need to swing into Starburst now that you brought it up. Rob's got some coloured condoms for my 44s.

I've got a mission. Road trip starting off with a Timmy's.

Yes, I hear your frustration and I see that several people are hooking you up with a place, but are you telling me that after clipping off
that cap, your flippers are still sticking up ?

If you don't bother going to see the parts counter at the back, you won't find much, for sure. I get resistors, caps, fuses, power cords, varistors, connectors, buttons, speakers, locks, solder... hell, I even found vintage Williams "start" buttons found on early SS pins there. You gotta look, and ask. They have ordered stuff for me when they didn't have it.

No. Its not sticking. I have arcing still under the flipper assy on the playfield so Ill replace the diode there also. A couple little nick knacks and a solder job check and I expect all will be well.
