Metal hole drilling in Ottawa

Can anyone recommend a place in Ottawa to take this GPU heatsink? I need threaded holes precisely drilled with a smaller pattern than any of the ones provided.

Re: Eight Ball Plus - BSOS Powered update for your game

Love the idea of a low cost, non-invasive mod. I wrote new rules for Meteor a couple of years ago but had to replace the whole MPU board. Where did you buy the J5 interface boards? I did not see that mentioned in the video or the pinside thread.

Re: Where to buy chime grommets?

On page 64 of the 1979 Stern Parts Catalog is a full breakdown of the chime unit. But googling for part number 7A-107 I didn't find anything. :(

Re: Where to buy chime grommets?

I have five here you can have. Marco p/n 38-111-39. Don't need them anymore. Drop me a PM. B6EE8235-9591-46DF-8D72-135802AF3204.jpeg Thanks for the grommets Colin! Sadly this doesn't appear to be the correct size for Stern Stars. I was able to get one into a hole with a lot of effort and a bar clam...

Where to buy chime grommets?

For a 1978 Stern Stars. I tried a grommet from my parts supply but it wasn't quite the right size, and the chime doesn't ring properly.

I've got a bunch of those and most if not all of the other parts to rebuild WPC HV section. Happy to help you out at no charge.

Re: Williams Comet

The manual indicates that white/blue is the row for switch 30 "LANE CHANGE". There are two wires because it is chained to the next switch in the matrix; both should be soldered to one lug of the switch. On the other lug you should find green/yellow.

Re: Williams Comet

I still would like to understand what the switch actually does. During a game, whenever this switch is closed, the lit lanes shift by one position. If none are lit, it does nothing. Here's an example, let's say the ball drops through the 1 lane so now just that lane is lit: 1 986 Now pressing the r...

Re: Williams Comet

Remove the balls, reset the drop targets, go into switch test mode, and check that there are no closed switches. If there are, power off and fix this problem first. Then go back to switch test mode and press the right flipper button to see if the lane change switch is registering. While you're at it...

Big thanks to Rob@PinMedics for the sound effects repair! I dropped off the board at the Baseline location, and had it repaired and back in my hands a week later for a very reasonable price.

Re: Homebrew imminent

Are you planning to buy a P3 cabinet or just use their boards in a cabinet of your own design? I chose a PC game (Quake III Arena) for my first custom theme, partly because it was easy to extract the individual sound effects. That could be more of a challenge for a movie or TV show based theme, unle...

Re: Gottlieb Victory

Anybody know what type of connector this is? I want to replace the power cord (someone along the way snipped off the ground pin  ). Not sure about the specific pin type but it is a Molex connector, for which special tools are usually needed (crimper, pins, pin removal tool). If the cord is in...

When I lift up the playfield and lean it on the "kickstand??" it always wants to slide away and I'm not comfortable leaving it up without holding it myself. Am I using this wrong?? It is sometimes called a prop rod, I never use them. Instead raise the playfield all the way and lean it aga...

Re: Shop Log: 1984 Williams Space Shuttle

Reshaping the ramp was a bigger job than I could do with a knife. Comparing with the original, a full 4mm of material had to be removed to free up the blocked gate and standup switch. For this I used a rotary tool with steel cutting blade. cutting tool.jpg It's a bit of a rough cut, but not really v...

Re: Shop Log: 1984 Williams Space Shuttle

Further testing of the lane change switch gave me the needed clue to solve the problem. One time in switch test mode I got a phantom activation of switch #44. Looking at the manual shows this switch is in the same matrix column as lane change. Maybe this issue would have been more obvious if there w...

Re: Shop Log: 1984 Williams Space Shuttle

Playtesting has revealed a couple of places I missed where the ramp molding has to be cut back. First a ball cannot touch this standup target, the opening is too small: target obstructed.jpg Second, a ball can occasionally get hung up here because the gate wireform is blocked by the ramp plastic. ba...

I forgot to take photos but the lamp driver repair went smoothly. All lamps now working. lamps complete.jpg It is now fully playable, the only gameplay issue is an unreliable lane change switch. However, the sound effects are not working properly which kind of ruins it. https://www.youtube.com/watch...

Re: Shop Log: 1984 Williams Space Shuttle

Time to replace the original ramp with its trashed entrances. Most of the rest of the molding is solid but it just can't be saved. ramp original.jpg The new ramp fit very poorly at first. There are big differences in dimensions and placement of the holes. For example on the original ramp, this hole ...

Welcome! There are lots of fellow pinball enthusiasts in Kanata and sometimes even games for sale. I hope you will find something to start your collection for the winter, and perhaps next year we will all be able to meet again.
