Re: Need advice from TV technophiles... 65" TV

I'm also happy with the 65" Samsung from Costco. As others have said, phone apps and add-ons like chromecast/apple tv are often better than the built in applications so there's no need to go overboard on them. It's a lot easier just to browse for whatever you want on your phone and then just se...

Re: Ottawa Pinball Parts FS @ Pinball Medics

Interesting...a place for parts not 5mins away for me. I guess I should get back into the game a bit. ;) I'm surprised no one has mentioned fuses yet, it's almost always a fuse issue isn't it? I hate trying to hunt down the correct ones. Actually test fuses (breaker type) would be a good idea as well.

Re: Is this cool for a store owner to have done?

Not to beat this to death, but there's also a caveat to "buying for the best price anywhere"....best price for what? Is it the best price that a seller can get? or is it the best price that you can get from someone looking to resell the item? Two different things, two different prices. Car...

Re: Is this cool for a store owner to have done?

To play the other side of the coin....Was it dishonest to NOT say that they were going to resell it? Or is part of the annoyance based on the assumption that was made that it was for personal use? Not sure by your post whether or not you were intentionally misled, or whether it was just your assumpt...

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?

Yes I would like some overspray effect. I heard about someone sticking some coins underneath to lift the stencil up. It worked to a certain extent but the coins were too close to the edge so they left an area that they covered with no overspray so you could see where the coin was sitting. My stenci...

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?

While I'm no painting expert, I can't follow your post.... Are you trying to get an overspray effect? Also, I believe that the stencils bend because of the paint shrinking as it dries, so I'm not sure how pre-painting them would help, instead, just try to limit the amount on the stencil itself. If i...

Re: OT: Sports Cars

The problem with old cars like that is that the interior is usually butt ugly. Don't get me wrong, I'd take one, but the interior would drive me nuts.

I don't have a sports car anymore, I have 3 kids. Maybe again when I kick them out of the house.

Agreed. You won't see any speed improvement on the emulated software. Since hyperthreading is relatively new (early 2000's), anything prior to that will undoubtedly run on a single core.

Re: Free Shooter game WIP : SureShot

Cool stuff.

One thing that I noticed (that bothered me for some reason), was that the shell casing ejected from both sides of the gun, depending on which way it was pointed it seemed. To make it more realistic, just have them on the right hand side.

Re: Blowing a fuse...

Ok, I'm embarrassed. Previously I had visually checked the coils in the BB and on the bottom board, looking for obvious shorts or issues. Found nothing. As Serge mentioned, perhaps one of the missing screws was lodged somewhere, so went home and I took a closer look at the bottom board in general. O...

Re: Blowing a fuse...

I don't remember seeing one. I'll disconnect the BB tonight and do another visual on the bottom board. Just to confirm, if I've removed the connectors for the BB, PF and coin door, and it still blows, then the issue is isolated to the bottom board correct? I understand that there may be other issues...

Re: Blowing a fuse...

Good point Serge, I'll take another look. One thing I did notice last night was that the 15 cent relay was jammed. The coil had somehow rotated in the holder and the plastic flange was preventing the armature of the switches to be pulled in. I'm wondering if that was a result of me manually triggeri...

I hear ya...one of those things I've been meaning to do.

Re: Blowing a fuse...

As an aside, I was reading on pinside where someone had a technique for troubleshooting this, I'll give this a try unless someone has a better idea. Remove all of the jones plugs and turn on the power. If the fuse blows, then it's something on the main board. If it doesn't, then systematically repla...

Thanks Sylvain, I'll grab some fuses on the way home and take another look at it. Now that I'm on a computer and not my phone, here are pics of the coin mechs. Blowing a fuse...

So the kids were playing around in the coin mech of my Four Aces. So nothing would happen when I turn the machine on...lights etc, would come on but start button didn't do anything. The only thing I noticed was that the relay on the door would engage. It is set to free play so my question is what wo...

That's a shame George. Your posts were some of the best reading.

If you need any help with that project, let me know. I've been doing mostly embedded programming for around 20 years. I just can't commit to being the lead on it.
