Craig, you should add that this machine doesn't smell of smoke but may have a hint of vanilla scented Xmas candles. ;) Very well maintained AP. GLWS.

I didn't like the light bleeding out but not enough to reverse the mod. I ended up using some black felt to block the light.

Re: Flipper Button LEDs

I just bought the bayonets and flex head LEDs and wired it up myself using feeds off the coin door. It worked perfectly and cost less that $6. Hey Tim, where is that thread that you put a link in regarding those flex heads? I don't know that I did. I installed them on my F-14 a while back but I'm n...

There are a ton of different PayPal's online. I've been using Neteller for almost 10 years now. Yeah, it doesn't have all the simplicity of PayPal and it isn't as versatile but there are other options out there. https://www.neteller.com/en_ca PayPal has gone the way of eBay for me. Re: A Tech In Training. Fifty Repair #? ~ F8 Keeps Blowin' Stern Spider-man

I had a similar type problem with my Judge Dredd. I found out by fluke that it was something shorted to the ground. I'm not saying this is the same for you but to rule that out you could try everything with the playfield up. I only figured out my problem when I had my playfield up the fuse did not ...

Re: A Tech In Training. Fifty Repair #? ~ F8 Keeps Blowin' Stern Spider-man

I tested Sandman VUK coil. 3.9 ohms. Good. Visually the coil is also fine. I disconnected the switch that fires this coil just to rule out a bad switch and turned on the pin again. F8 started to glow. Unfortunately I wasn't quick enough to turn off the game so there goes another 3A S.B. fuse... I ne...

My father would drop me off every Saturday morning at Mister Arcade at Bank and Alta Vista while he did his weekly errands. I hung out there quite a bit as well. Mainly Friday and Saturday nights in the early 90's. I absolutely loved that place. I was sorry to see it go. Black hole was the first pi...

Re: I need a second opinion on this MOSFET

Since the flipper was staying up after one flip after replacing Q15 with a new transistor, the questions you need to ask yourself are: - Is the flipper energized again as soon as you turn the machine ON, with the new transistor in place? - Is the new transistor shorted again now ? Update: With powe...

Re: I need a second opinion on this MOSFET

I would check the flipper coil ohms, and check/replace D15 given the transistor is shorted between its drain & source pins. For measuring the voltage at the gate - simply remove the flipper fuse and the shorted transistor first. You lost me. [EDIT] Q15 is the MOSFET that was shorted and that I'...

Re: I need a second opinion on this MOSFET

I will follow what I can from your list; - ohm the flipper coil. I can do this. - the diode on the board I can't test. It gives me false readings. I would need to remove it from the board first. - When I use my DMM the MOSFET is shorted between the Drain and Source pins. - There aren't many other pa...

Re: I need a second opinion on this MOSFET

Let us know what happens with Ed's recommended IRL540N replacement. I am still suspecting an incorrect TTL voltage arriving at the gate of the MOSFET, or the diode across the coil is opened. But I do not have enough info to proceed here. - Sylvain. As always, I really appreciate you chiming in on m...

Re: I need a second opinion on this MOSFET

Ed from GPE actually posted in my Pinside thread on this issue and has shown me the part is not completely comatible. The max values are in spec but the applicable values are not. I will try to order the compatible part and report back once I solder it in.

Re: I need a second opinion on this MOSFET

The only way I can measure the diode on the board is to remove it from the board. I was trying to avoid this, but maybe it's inevitable. I am not familiar with the pre-drive to this transistor (or Sys1/Sys80 Gottlieb's :) ) but I'll take a look in the manual now. The flipper coil is not burned. I di...

Re: I need a second opinion on this MOSFET

Each MOSFET has a diode. Unfortunately I can't measure the diodes in the board. It's giving false readings. I thought I was doing something wrong so I grabbed a few loose diode from my kit and they measured fine. I'm still doubting the MOSFET I ordered but I don't see why it wouldn't be compatible. :S
