Re: Car GPS, suggestions ?

Nothing comes even close to Waze on a smartphone. I know it isn't ideal for you, but in terms of real-time updates and dynamic routing it's really the way to go. It has leapfrogged a generation beyond any standalone unit.

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?

Lots of fixes today. 7-digit display in Centaur was acting unpredictably so I rebuilt the headers. Fixed some issues but when warm the display was still losing every digit except one. Replaced the two transistors for that digit and bam- back in business. While I had the board out, replaced the 1/4W ...

Anyone have a TE header tool?

Any of you have one of these for building new IDC header connectors that I can either borrow or buy off of you?

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?

Took all of the faded/burnt LEDs out of Tag Team and replaced them with new SMD type 5050 and 2835 lamps. Do NOT buy the single lamp LEDs from Comet's bargain section. I bought hundreds of them over the last couple of years before anyone knew there was a problem and nearly every single one of them i...

Re: Early Bally Ceramic Capacitors

Great! I'm glad it worked out! Digikey is one of the better kept secrets. Great for electronics, lots of passive components and ICs and they're super fast. Not great for obscure stuff but we're not their target market. The hardest thing is navigating their site; because they have such a massive inve...

Well said.

With the tornado that took out the substation touching down less than half a mile from the venue, we all know it could have been even worse.

Scary thoughts indeed.

I look forward to the next time!

Such a huge bummer. I really hope this one can be pulled out of the fire but it looks like Ottawa is going to be recovering for a while.

Digikey is awesome. Less than $10 overnight shipping. Here is an equivalent product: https://www.digikey.ca/product-detail/en/vishay-bc-components/K473K10X7RF5UH5/BC2686CT-ND/2356900 Here is the old-school ceramic look, but it's an inferior product: https://www.digikey.ca/product-detail/en/panasonic...

Re: Wanted: Williams Time Warp Sound card

New replacements are available but honestly you might want to check your connectors and re-flow solder everywhere on the board since you're comfortable with a soldering iron. Bad connectors will give you the same results with a new board. In any case, replacements aren't terribly expensive: http://w...

I have a 42" TV I can bring if someone can help me lift Centaur II into my truck on Friday. It's already in my front hallway, no basement involved.

Re: Pinfeast at the CNE Toronto for 2019

Well, I wish you the best success for your local pinball scene. Ottawa and Montreal's scene has a bit more punk rock ethic to it, and I think I echo MadTitan's thoughts above. You crossed picket lines to throw your event and are charging penalties to well meaning volunteers and both are things that ...

Re: Pinfeast at the CNE Toronto for 2019

How about "Machines cannot be removed before xx on Sunday- No exceptions. If this isn't possible for you then please leave your machine at home."

If machines leaving early isn't a problem as long as you get paid, then machines leaving early isn't really a problem, is it?

Re: Pinfeast at the CNE Toronto for 2019

I'm sure they'll have it sorted by then, for the sake of the workers. I can't imagine a lockout that protracted. At that point, I won't be crossing the line, I'll be marching on it with them. Half of the machines in my collection are from good IATSE brothers: there are many Ottawa pinballers who are...
