This is worth building a heated garage for, just to have it in your new heated garage.

Re: Just picked up my first pinball machine
Never shotgun board swaps. That's an expensive proposition. Every individual component on that board is available for pennies from companies like Mouser and Digikey. You could buy spares of every component, plus a soldering iron, for less than a replacement board. If you're going to be a pinhead, it...

Alright, well, pull the control panel off, but don’t smash the rest. I’m sure someone will take it off your hands.

Re: It's time to mod Sparky's beast!
I think you're probably much better off selling it to someone who wants it the way that it is, and using the money to build something new. Changing it from what it is to what you want involves reusing very little, and destroying a lot. Just start from scratch. There are half a dozen outfits in town ...
Re: Mata Hari
This is the Aussie version of the game.
Re: Mata Hari
I know these mech pics get a little repetitive, but sometimes the transformation is so incredible that I just have to post them. Check out this kicker: IMG_3148.jpeg IMG_3158.jpeg After running the coils through the ultrasonic, I use the compressor to blow the cleaning solution out. It smells like a...
Re: Mata Hari
My good friends: buy yourselves an ultrasonic cleaner and vibratory tumbler and you’ll never again worry about what to do with your hours and hours of free time. IMG_3141.jpeg IMG_3145.jpeg It’s an improvement! Now I just have to repeat that with every mech left in the game. Slow and steady wins the...

Re: Mata Hari
Aaaaaand I just realized reading the labels that the incorrect knocker coil was previously installed too. Should have taken a closer look when evaluating the machine. Going to have to order up the right ones. Rookie mistake.
Re: Mata Hari
Here is the first coil mech to take a bath: the knocker, which will close the work on the head for now. I already reworked the displays and boards a few months ago. Before: IMG_3124.jpeg After: IMG_3131.jpeg There wasn’t much to do. Everything got a dip in the ultrasonic, and after a rinse the coil ...
Mata Hari
Getting started on a Mata Hari that I picked up a year ago. It’s been staring me in the face, and over the holidays I got enough of my loose ends tied up that I can finally get started. Ultrasonic cleaner is fired up, and now I’ll break it down bit by bit. First job is always to start with the deep ...

Re: Better alternative for removing RUST
It's not fear, it's respect. Not all chemicals are the same. That's why we have safety data sheets. When you know what's in a product you can take precautions. This product, you don't know what's in it, and more importantly, the vendor is refusing to tell you. I work in construction, and this attitu...
