Re: Gottlieb System 1 Power supply -12 volt and 8 volts out to lunch

Are you measuring the lack of -12V with connector A2P2 removed, or connected? This is to identify if the issue is still with the power supply, or downstream. NOTE: Never disconnect or reconnect connectors with power ON, or damage to some components could occur. For the -12V supply, it should not be ...

Re: Gottlieb System 1 Bridge Voltage Problem

Just wondering what brand of multimeter you are using. Maybe it is confused by some AC ripple on top of the DC voltage? Or defective? The DC voltages measured make no sense compared to the AC input on the bridge rectifiers... I think it should be AC voltage times 1.4 or so under no load, if I recall...

Re: Tim's First EM Journey. Fixing a Gottlieb Surfer.

I suspect that coil burned because it stayed ON for too long, probably because the Normally Closed contact on 10B did not open when that relay tripped...

Re: EM help. Surfer

The 10B coil is energized through only two switches that are in-series (so both conditions need to be true for the relay coil to be energized): - A Normally Closed contact on 10B itself; - A Normally Open contact on 11B (so 11B needs to be activated for that contact to be properly closed). That is i...

Re: EM help. Surfer

Go to the following useful web site for full score instruction cards you can print:
http://www.pinballrebel.com/pinball/cards/

Surfer's card also indicates 'COMPLETING 5 ROLLOVER BUTTONS LIGHTS SIDE ROLLOVER FEATURES.'

Re: EM help. Surfer

I don't have the instruction card, but reading the instructions doesn't really help. The full instructions are still not really clear. The only way to light the side rollovers is to get all 5 star rollovers first. The way it reads it appears I the steps are; 1) Hit all 5 star rollovers. 2) Hit eith...

Re: EM help. Surfer

Unsure if your machine has its Instruction Card. For Surfer and Surf Champ, the Instruction cards for 3-ball or 5-ball state: BONUS VALUE DOUBLES ON LAST BALL OR BY HITTING EITHER SIDE ROLLOVER WHEN LIT. EITHER SIDE ROLLOVER TRIPLES BONUS VALUE IF DOUBLE IS LIT. The Double Bonus Control Relay (11B o...

Hack of the day - Bride of Pinbot

Found interesting 'hacks' (e.g. poor prior work), on a Williams Bride of Pinbot today, that caused a part of the switch matrix and the helmet lamps not working. Fun, quick and simple repair! Issue 1: Jet bumpers, spinner, both slings, shooter ball switches not responding. All on the same column. Goo...

Re: Tech: Bally Playboy

Fun and challenging issue! My suggestion to disconnect the sound board and try to swap the PIA U10/U11 on the MPU was to ensure the sound board is not possibly guilty of causing the same issue/damage on all MPUs tried in the machine. As stated by ToMMy, you need to find-out why the C line is stuck h...

Re: Tech: Bally Playboy

I dusted off my logic probe and checked U2 ABCD pins on the SDB with the game cycling solenoid test. AB&D pins are high and go low when selected as normal. C pin (U2 pin 21) is continually high throughout the test and does not go low. What does this mean? Bad U11 6820/6821 chip? Or that line sh...

I assume you also double-checked the wiring pinouts of the outputs (to solenoids) of the Solenoid Driver?

Re: Tech: Bally Playboy

Double-check the wiring on MPU J4 and Solenoid Driver inputs J4.
Check that the EPROMs on the MPU are for the proper game (Playboy).

Then check this switch that is still activated by the solenoid plunger every time it steps:
(often one blade is broken on the 'often-stepping' Gottlieb score counters, such as the 10 and 100 pts)

Fifty wrote:When you say the "EOS switch on the plunger" do you mean the score reel plunger? So when the score reel is rotating from 9 to 0 that plunger?

The EOS is right at each score counter plunger itself. It opens every time the plunger goes in. This is not the 0 or 9 position switches.

Or, it was a maybe a ROM/EPROM software bug in one of the old version :)

Are you running the latest Nine Ball EPROM version on your MPU?

Re: EM help. Surfer

Does this also occur on Player-2? Reason I am asking: If I recall, most of those Gottlieb score counters have an EOS switch on the plunger that is normally closed, and it open when the score counter's plunger is almost bottomed-out - this is to ensure the counter properly advances, even if the impul...

Re: EM help. Surfer

The 10, 100 and 1000 points relays in the head each have one of their Normally Open contact pairs dedicated for their respective associated chimes.
Make sure the contacts on these three relays are tight and properly gapped/adjusted.

Good luck!
