Re: What did you do today in the hobby?

Working on a Data East Torpedo Alley project for a MAACA member. Many things were wrong or not working with the machine. Just a subset of the list: - machine did not boot - MPU corrosion. Pickled board, replaced 3 chips sockets as well as found a bad 6808 CPU & EPROMs. Replaced. Booting fine now. - ...

Re: Skateball Shop Log

The Bally/Stern Drop-Target resetting too high and/or out of track is a fairly common issue with these older games. I usually perform the following steps to eliminate the problem: 1- adjust the position of the associated drop-target reset coil bracket (some can be adjusted) to just barely make the d...

FOUND: Data East 4x10 speaker for insert panel

Want to Buy: One Data East 4" x 10" speaker for a Data East Torpedo Alley. One of the two speakers on the speaker insert panel has an opened voice coil. DSCF0088.JPG Please PM with info (asking price, shipping costs). (I could purchase a regular 4x10 car speaker, but would prefer trying to get an or...

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?

20-pin header replaced, mods applied to this Bally Rectifier board.
Just need to clean, apply thermal heatsink compound and re-assemble.
And ensure proper fuses/ratings are present.

Beautiful day to do this!

Re: Williams Blackout pinball machine

In addition to the 40-pin interconnect MPU-driver, often bad EPROM sockets too on the MPU that might cause the machine to freeze and blow a fuse. It might be difficult to find someone with proper expertise to go to your place to look at this these immediate days due to the dang Covid. Good luck! -Sy...

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?

If and when a Pinball show is put together later when this dang pandemic eases-off (hopefully in 2020, or in 2021), I would suggest that a donation bin for a charity be setup at the entrance, e.g. for all of us to donate food to a local food bank, etc. as we pay our entrance fee and also set-up our ...

Bonne chance!

Re: High Speed Socket Spring Missing

Thanks Luch, but I don't think there's enough material on the left side to make the required return down to the playfield. Unless you use a discarded/used playfield post or spacer and a longer screw for the left side if there is enough space for it, in the mean time that you find an exact replaceme...

Re: High Speed Remote Battery Holder Won't Retain Settings

Exactly where should they go? There are three positive and three negative through holes on the board, but only one positive and one negative wire for the holder. Exactly. They have to be wired at the two proper spots out of the six pins of the original battery holder. I usually have to check the bo...

Re: High Speed Remote Battery Holder Won't Retain Settings

1- I would first double-check that the red & black wires from the remote battery holder are connected exactly where they should go on the MPU board where the original corroded/removed battery holder was; 2- I would then measure the voltage from the remote battery holder arriving on the MPU board wit...

Re: Playmatic Fandango - 100s Score Relay Locks When 1000 Points Scored

Somewhat difficult to clearly identify the contacts/relays letters in the top right area of the schematics, but I would suggest to check the following: - EOS switch on solenoid of the 1000 score reel - ensure it opens when its solenoid pulls-in; - 'O' Control Bumper relay contacts - make sure they a...

Re: Project Xenon, farm fresh!

Nice hack - instead of 5A fuse for F4, it is probably 50A now... Fire hazard. The next question is what made the F4 solenoid fuse blow initially... e.g. the root cause of the problem. Shorted bridge rectifier, or more likely a shorted drive transistor on the Solenoid Driver board, along with a usual...
