Re: Bally KISS Score Display Flickering

Could be a bad high voltage filter capacitor on the Solenoid Driver board, connector/pins, or cold solder joints at header pins.
Could also be the MPU having an issue with the display interrupt circuit. This has nothing to do with the Lamp driver board.

Good luck!

Re: Pinball machine at work for United Way

Thank you Honey Badger.

The machine generated team building, friendly competition, generosity, initiative and a lot of fun and talk at the office!
$200 collected for United Way, not bad for a short time.

Cheers,

Pinball machine at work for United Way

After discussing with various people at work recently, I decided to bring my 1980 Stern Galaxy on Monday earlier this week, as a novelty way to collect a bit of money for United Way, during our November United Way Campaign at the office. It is set up in the cafeteria, 50 cents per play. All proceeds...

Re: Bally Controlled Lamp Flicker

I would start by checking connectors, pins (inside housing) and header solder joints for:
- MPU J1 pins 12 to 19 for Controlled Lamps Data and Addresses outputs
- Main Lamp Driver connector J4 Lamp Data and Addresses Inputs.

Are these LEDs or original lamps?

Good luck!

Re: Gottlieb bronco EM

First, ensure that no points are scored on the 1st player at game start before attempting to add more players. This could occur if some playfield contacts are gapped too close for instance, where a slight vibration could add points... Then, check the following relay contacts in the cabinet for prope...

Re: Coil Emergency Ottawa Show

Ah, it is a flipper coil with two windings, thanks for the detail.
AQ-25-500/34-4500 ?

Machine-gunning is usually caused by the small weak fine wire 'hold' coil being opened (the 34-4500 portion here).
The break of the small wire is often at one of the coil lug.

I am sure you already know, but indicating here for the general public with less pinball repair experience who might be reading:

Make sure you also address the reason the original coil burned.
Otherwise the replacement one will burn soon after replacement.

Re: Williams Time Warp - problem with drop targets

Indeed, as indicated by DrSmooth above. One or more drop targets switch does not make proper contact when the drop is/are down, therefore the machine 'thinks' one or more drop targets are still up, thus not resetting them when all down. Or a broken wire at the drop target bank switches' boards. The ...

Without the diagram, I would first check the contacts and their gapping on the following relays:
- Extra Ball Relay
- 1st Ball Relay (U)
- through switch at ball exit from outhole
- interlock relays operation and contacts (AX, BX, etc.)

Good luck!

Re: OPGS 2018 Parts Pre-orders

Thanks Rob for bringing bulbs and parts to the show, much appreciated!

For an obscure part wanted:
Any chance that you have a working or not CD player unit for a Pioneer CJ-V55 jukebox, like pic below?
I do not need the three cartridges - just the player chassis.

Merci!

Re: Need help with Willaims Time Warp (System 6 CPU)

To get out of audit (assuming the memory protect and the 5101 CMOS RAM chip are good), open the cash door, power the machine ON, then OFF, and immediately back ON. You can confirm that the battery holder and batteries are good by using a voltmeter (with the machine OFF) and confirming the DC voltage...

I had run into a couple of similar issues many moons ago when I used to work part-time in a TV radio repair shop in Montreal-East, while studying at university. Next step: - Measure the DC voltage between one end of the large ceramic 1/2 to 1 Ohm resistor on the shaker motor board, and ground. Repeat the measurement between the other end of the large ceramic 1/2 to 1 Ohm resistor on the shaker motor board, and ground. In both cases, it should be close to +1...

Re: Need Help Debugging Power Supply and Shaker

You need to measure the 9VAC between CN1-P10 and CN1-P11, and not with any reference to ground:
because this raw AC voltage originates from a secondary winding from the power transformer (via the power supply board), and not in reference to ground...

Re: Need Help Debugging Power Supply and Shaker

What AC voltage (not DC) do you measure between CN1-P10 and CN1-P11 ? Around 9V AC on the power supply? What about on the shaker motor board, between J1-P1/2 and J1-P4/5? Should be also approx 9VAC. I assume you already checked the two 2.5A fuses. Did you check the 1/2 to 1 ohm resistor just before ...

Re: Help with repairing System 7 boards?

Could be the static-sensitive 5101 CMOS RAM 22-pin chip on the MPU, or other circuit around the memory protect possibly.
Strange that it mostly worked earlier and now no more.
