Re: Play field avec signature sur la Galaxy

Juste pour clarifier, ces signatures sont celles des designers, et non des artistes - pour les Stern de cette époque.

1983 Bally Gold Ball interesting issue

Almost done working on a 1983 Bally Gold Ball pinball machine for another MAACA member. As usual, it is strongly recommended to perform a good and careful visual inspection and basic electrical checks on any pinball machine, before plugging it in. On this machine, the following were obvious: - Groun...

Hi Kim, I do not have such game, but I think we briefly talked at the last Ottawa Pinball & Gameroom show. … Just to ensure you checked the usual: - speaker, volume control and wiring all good, including plug to the sound board; - supply voltages measured on the sound board and all are as expect...

Re: Bulletproofing Stern SDU-100-C Solenoid Board

Those original 100K 1/4W under-rated resistors on displays burn even faster if the Solenoid Driver High Voltage Regulator section becomes short or adjusted too high for a while (e.g. HV outputting > 200+ VDC). I usually adjust the voltage down to 175VDC to preserve the displays. This also helps lowe...

Re: Gottlieb Countdown score displays not working

4.7V was way too low, I am surprized it booted at all. Are you measuring the +5V voltage on the power supply, or on the MPU across the electrolytic cap near the power connector (this is where I typically measure the +5V to see if the power harness/connector has good continuity without excessive loss...

Re: Hack or not

Thanks Denis, looks nice! Similar to this, I also have seen a few questionnable pinball prior repair/rework/repining work in the past: - improper crimping / wrong crimping tool was used - leaving wires barely attached/making poor contact/falling-out of crimped connector pins; - header connector repl...

Re: Gottlieb Countdown score displays not working

Make sure you always turn OFF power on the game before disconnecting or reconnecting any connectors. From the initial problem description: Could be a shorted display (inside the glass), issue with power supply regulator section for display voltage, or connector issue on the power supply. Or cold sol...

Re: Gottlieb Countdown - Part 2

This is a typical symptom of the cabinet switches not registering onto the MPU. Or, damaged chips on the switch matrix on the MPU.

Did you check (and replace if needed) the pins in the J6 connector on the MPU, when you checked the SLAM switch not reporting issue earlier?

Good luck!

Re: Gottlieb Count-Down

This is typically the cash door's slam switch not registering onto the MPU. Often corroded pins in the cabinet connector going to the MPU. J6 I think. Check the switch first for proper closure. There are instructions on the web on how to short/bypass the slam switch to avoid the issue, if the connec...

Re: Tim's First EM Journey. Fixing a Gottlieb Surfer.

Sounds like the Normally Open 'Hold' contact on the 500 pts relay itself (contacts should close when relay activated)
and/or score motor contact 2B (perhaps - I do not have a Surfer schematics here) are wrongly gapped or dirty.

Re: Tim's First EM Journey. Fixing a Gottlieb Surfer.

On the bottom of the score motor are cams/cogs/teeth that will count up those 5’s. those 5 pulses might not score if the contacts are out of adjustment. Is where I would look next I agree. This is the common source for the points impulses. Unless the 500/5000 relay contacts are also mangled. -Sylva...

The statement is correct: The Bonus unit has two zero position switches mechanically tied together,

and the other one just above it is a normally closed switch on the path towards the O relay...

Re: Bally Eight Ball - Chime Coil Stuck On

As Sparky stated above. According to the Bally Eight Ball service manual, the Q5 drive transistor (at least!) on the Solenoid Driver board is shorted and will need to be replaced. A TIP102 or a 2N6045 are good replacements for it. You also need to check the diode and wires orientation on the new 100...

Yes: Same wire gauge (26) and number of turns (1200).
As long as it mechanically fits.
Be careful with the wiring/orientation of the diode across the lugs.
