Re: Bally Power Play stop working

Agree with Sparky above - immediately burning lamps means that there is an unexpected voltage source shorted to the GI line, most probably from the rework under the new rectifier board, or a short under the playfield between GI and solenoid (coil) voltage. This needs to be found and fixed properly a...

Re: Black Knight issues

Probably a connector again - use the game diagram to identify which connector/pin.
Unlikely it will be the boards or drive transistor as I understand they were all checked by ToMMy.
Could be the contact adjustment on the bell assembly itself too.

Re: Black Knight issues

Thanks ToMMy, good input. I assume you are the one who fixed his boards.

I have been suspecting an issue with connectors/harness or wiring as posted back on Oct.30, according to the described symptoms at the time.

Re: Black Knight issues

Are you sure the memory protect cuts power to the coils in that generation of Williams pinball games? Seems I remember it does not, and is only present to protect the memory/audits/settings and not the coil power. More recent games do have the coil power disconnected via the coin door switch for saf...

Re: Captain Fantastic issue

An interesting thing to note. The pin connector plug beside the the tilt on the left side on the inside cabinet - one of the pins becomes extremely hot - to the point where I almost burned my finger. I think it is one of the bottom pins. I have never know a pin to get so hot. Would you have any ide...

Re: Black Knight issues

What is important here is the orientation of the wires to that coil, compared to the diode across its lugs. As you noted, 'Looking at the other coils the power wires are at the banded side of the diode', so you need to do the same with the replacement coil that has its diode already installed but re...

Re: Captain Fantastic issue

Tighten, check and adjust (possibly flexstone) contacts on the Game Over interlock relay.
I think one NC (normally closed) contact pair supplies power to the Bonus and A/B lamps, according to the schematics.

Good luck!

Re: Black Knight issues

With the machine unplugged, as recommended by luch above: 1-Make sure you replace the coil - confirm it is the same coil number and check the diode orientation on the coil / wires position; do not overheat the lugs during soldering; 2-install the repaired boards with all their screws, reconnect all ...

Did you also check R113 on the MPU? Good solder joint on J4 pin 15 header pin ? Do you have around +21.5V on TP3 on the MPU?

Good luck!

Re: Black Knight issues

If no coil fire except that K1 relay when grounding various driver transistors tabs on the driver board, then you definitely have a solenoid power, fuse, wiring, connector, cold solder joint or ground issue between the Solenoid Driver, Power Supply, connectors, harness and coils. There is nothing le...

Re: Black Knight issues

3J4 is plugged in the power supply board in the head? It also carries ground for solenoids.
2J11, 2J12, 2J9 plugged in the Driver board?

I would also suggest to check connectors 8J3, 8J6 (head to body connectors I think), and also confirm no daisy-chain wires are off any coils under the playfield.

Re: Black Knight issues

Sounds like a ground connection is opened or missing on the power supply or driver board, to complete the circuit to the coils when activated by a transistor. Make sure 3J2 is connected on the power supply, as well as 2J10 on the Driver board. Also assuming you checked for any possible cold solder j...

Re: Gottlieb Close Encounter tech question

I would first look at the A1J7 PF switch matrix connector and ensure it is firmly seated on the MPU. Then check to ensure no switch is permanently closed or improperly gapped. Also confirm no daisy-chain wiring at playfield switches are disconnected or improperly soldered under the playfield. And th...

Re: tech needed in Windsor on

Did you end-up replacing the broken-off diodes or just resoldering one end if they were disconnected? If diodes were replaced, make sure the new ones are soldered with the proper orientation. Check the adjustment/gapping of the spoon switch under that trigger-happy pop-bumper. If gap OK, go into swi...

Re: Diodes V330

Looks like cabinet switches do not report to the MPU board (top left card inside the head). Make sure there are credits (e.g. not 0). Do the coin switches add credits? Any corrosion at the bottom of the MPU board? Try unseating and seating connector J3 (bottom right) on the MPU board and see if it t...

Looks like an AMI G-120. These have great mono sound when recapped and restored. Warm tube sound. Typically they also need the harness/wires replaced on the moving turntable. And pinbank work. I own a G-80, same model/year with 80 selections instead of 120. Those models are not as collectible as See...

I would check and confirm the +5, -12 and +12 voltages arriving on the MPU with a digital multimeter, and also make sure all connectors, esp. MPU to Driver, are in good shape and firmly connected. Perhaps the power supply +5V adjustment is a bit off, allowing the new Ni-Wumpf board to work, but mayb...

Probably, it looks like Bally slots cabinets from the 70s... - is it working? - are all keys included? - is there a payout hopper inside, or is the hopper missing? - or, payout only via credit counter? - coins - does it take Canadian nickel...
