Re: EM help. Surfer

Hmm... I'll post some photos soon. My REPLAY BUTTON has just stopped working. It was working 3 posts ago and now it's not doing anything. It was originally not doing anything and I had fixed it (at least I thought I had). I did just replace my V relay... I wonder if that has something to do with it...

Re: EM help. Surfer

The trick is, for every relay in any EM game: - make sure the two screws are present and tight on each of the contact stacks - before making any contact/gapping adjustment; - contacts need to be adjusted so that there is just a tad of pressure/wipe when making the contact, and a visible space gap wh...

Re: Spring on stepper unit

You have to find-out what is binding. Check the advice of novaguy above. Also make sure all ratchet parts/arms and pivots are lightly lubed and not gummed-up, so that the unit can easily ratchet up and down (or reset) mechanically/manually. Once the rivets are cleaned, it would be a good idea to put...

Re: Buying You're First Pin - Do and Don't

In addition to check all fuses for proper value and type (good advice from tombiosis above: do not overfuse!), - check and fix any frayed wires inside, poor hacks; - check and replace the AC plug if its ground prong had been broken-off; - Turn the machine OFF before unplugging or replugging any conn...

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?

Playmatic Space Gambler plays! After some troubleshooting, found a few intermittent cold solder joints on the transformer Jones plug in the head. Fixed. Next issue: some targets did not score. Luckily the schematics proved them to be on the same switch matrix row. Actual issue: it appears the wire f...

1N4001 je pense: Le manuel indique ce type de diode sur les switches des drop targets, donc probablement le même type utilisé pour les autres switches du playfield aussi.

Re: Need some assistance with Solar City (EM)

Is there a 2-player relay in this game inside the cabinet?
I would start by checking the contacts/gapping on this relay first.

A7, etc. are Address bus line numbers.
D0, etc. are Data bus line numbers.

These are not physical location, they are signal names used by the processor, EPROM and chips...

Re: Need help with test chart locations ?

Not quite sure I understand your question, but each row indicates connectivity (e.g. copper traces - i.e. short between) the pins of the chips listed. For instance, the 1st row of the table: - pin 1 of chip U2 connects to pin 1 of chip U3 and to pin 16 of chip U1 (for signal A7 on the MPU board). Yo...

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?

Just started working on my project Playmatic Space Gambler, 10 years after purchasing the game as-is. Time flies, busy. Machine boots now and goes in attract mode, but cannot start a game. Yet. It will be a challenging repair, as it was their first solid state game and there is very little info on t...

Re: Bally KISS Score Display Flickering

Could be a bad high voltage filter capacitor on the Solenoid Driver board, connector/pins, or cold solder joints at header pins.
Could also be the MPU having an issue with the display interrupt circuit. This has nothing to do with the Lamp driver board.

Good luck!

Thank you Honey Badger.

The machine generated team building, friendly competition, generosity, initiative and a lot of fun and talk at the office!
$200 collected for United Way, not bad for a short time.

Pinball machine at work for United Way

After discussing with various people at work recently, I decided to bring my 1980 Stern Galaxy on Monday earlier this week, as a novelty way to collect a bit of money for United Way, during our November United Way Campaign at the office. It is set up in the cafeteria, 50 cents per play. All proceeds...

Re: Bally Controlled Lamp Flicker

I would start by checking connectors, pins (inside housing) and header solder joints for:
- MPU J1 pins 12 to 19 for Controlled Lamps Data and Addresses outputs
- Main Lamp Driver connector J4 Lamp Data and Addresses Inputs.

Are these LEDs or original lamps?

Good luck!

Re: Gottlieb bronco EM

First, ensure that no points are scored on the 1st player at game start before attempting to add more players. This could occur if some playfield contacts are gapped too close for instance, where a slight vibration could add points... Then, check the following relay contacts in the cabinet for prope...

Re: Coil Emergency Ottawa Show

Ah, it is a flipper coil with two windings, thanks for the detail.
AQ-25-500/34-4500 ?

Machine-gunning is usually caused by the small weak fine wire 'hold' coil being opened (the 34-4500 portion here).
The break of the small wire is often at one of the coil lug.

I am sure you already know, but indicating here for the general public with less pinball repair experience who might be reading:

Make sure you also address the reason the original coil burned.
Otherwise the replacement one will burn soon after replacement.

Re: Williams Time Warp - problem with drop targets

Indeed, as indicated by DrSmooth above. One or more drop targets switch does not make proper contact when the drop is/are down, therefore the machine 'thinks' one or more drop targets are still up, thus not resetting them when all down. Or a broken wire at the drop target bank switches' boards. The ...
