Re: Sorcerer issues/ phantom tilt

First resolve those switches which are shown closed. The shooter lane switch should be straightforward, but I'm surprised it's reporting a closure on the slingshot. If that happened during a game it would probably lock on and blow a fuse. However it's possible that the manual is wrong and 33 could b...

Re: OPL May 28th@Quarter Grabber

I always enjoy unusual titles and today was no exception with Pharaoh getting the most play. I hope Elektra is working next time, that is another rare beauty I have only played once! Also there is room for at least twice as many pins in that game room, what's going on? 8-)

WTT: Classic Stern Pop Bumper Caps

Long shot? I have a set of brand new Stern Nugent bumper caps. These were intended for use with Stern Ali, but the screw holes don't line up. I would like to trade for a suitable set which would actually fit. http://www.marcospecialties.com//images/products/13A-12-2-PCS/large.jpg The specific design...

Re: Tech: Stern Ali

I've been trying to treat this as a "playable project", fixing one thing at a time. The problem is that without a full teardown, not all of the damage can be identified right away. And so I found after disassembling the pop bumpers, some of the parts just had to be replaced, and I didn't i...

Re: Tech: Stern Ali

The outlane guides in this game are simply wire inserted to the playfield. At the leading edge they tend to get hammered by the ball, and then have to be pushed back up again. Bit of a nuisance. http://www.maaca.org/download/file.php?id=32988&t=1 As you can see here, the hole is drilled right th...

Maybe one of the slingshot switches is sticking closed when the slingshot fires?

Re: Tech: Stern Ali

I've been enjoying daily play of this game, tweaking & tuning to get it dialed in perfectly. There are still a few items to resolve however. Bit of a setback yesterday; I raised the playfield to check some bulbs, and heard a piece fall into the cabinet. Sadly this insert has disintegrated and ca...

Re: Tech: Stern Ali

Ali is playable once again! :D Big thanks to 4eyes for the ball guide repair. At first it wasn't reliably serving to the shooter lane, when I took it all apart there was this bit of unusual (?) wear on the metal coil sleeve in the outhole kicker: IMG_20170503_092915016.jpg Can't recall seeing that b...

Re: Tech: Stern Ali

Those are never perfect, but the tool threads are designed to cut the threads clean again when you spin the machine screw back out. If the tool itself has a loose pivot, you can use linesman's pliers to cut your bolt and the threads in the cutter will serve the same function. Thanks I will keep tha...

Re: Tech: Stern Ali

I ended up purchasing some #6-32 threaded rod. With a washer and nylon nut on the end, it can serve the same function as a carriage bolt without any modification of the playfield. It sticks out a bit more on the underside, but there is plenty of room in this application. @redketchup: thanks again bu...

I could bring you this C-clamp, but I think you'd be better off with one of these C-clips. ;) Assuming it's the right size. Anyway see you at Frank's! 8-)

Here's a creative bit of repair: IMG_20170427_100621196.jpg Looks like the top broke off, and a coil stop bracket was welded in its place. Not bad, I'll leave that one. Here's the other (normal) side for comparison: IMG_20170427_100654279.jpg However on this side you can see a missing bolt, and an e...

Re: Tech: Stern Ali

Just curious what your source/price for the new flipper base-plate assemblies was: I have to replace my Chetah flippers as they are currently Gottlieb retro-fit/frankensteins. I bought these items from PinballLife , everything included except the bats. Very reasonably priced if you live in the USA....
