Opinions: Which is the most challenging WPC title?

My choice: Doctor Who. Setup with factory "lightning" (short) flippers, open outlanes, and reasonably sensitive tilt, it is very difficult to get control of the ball (never mind multiple balls). The flipper angle is shallow, making a weak cradle; the slingshot posts are too far away for trapping or ...

Several WPC and modern Stern have super skill shot that involves making a flipper shot after plunging.

Re: Flipper Football keeps resetting problem

If the 5V logic power supply is weak in any way, then when the solenoids fire and draw some power it can pull down the logic voltage and cause a reset. But there is no way to be certain the source of this weakness without more debugging. It could just be a loose connector wire. It would be a fine te...

Re: Flipper Football keeps resetting problem

The main board in this machine has a bunch of huge capacitors mounted in such a way that vibrations can easily cause cracked solder joints on the cap leads. According to pinrepair it's the most likely cause of random reset in Capcom pins. Also check for cracks on the bridge rectifiers, and the power...

Well I got no feedback at all on the idea of meeting at my place or at Jon's on the other thread. And no other volunteers to host for May. So if you guys have an opinion on what we should do this month please say it!

Re: RFM - Column of Opto Switches Dead

(Note: I have no Pin2K experience but according to pinrepair, switch matrix is identical to WPC.) First of all, exactly what does the switch test diagnostic mode tell you? To verify whether or not the driver board is working properly, remove all of the switch matrix connectors. Power on the machine,...

Re: Centaur ball eject

If I ground the coil with a jumper wire for long enough, it kicks reliably. But a brief grounding does not. It works the same, whether I ground the coil lug, or the tab of the driver transistor, so I think the wiring is good. But I could try replacing the transistor.

Re: Centaur ball eject

It doesn't seem to hit the guide at the moment; perhaps the damage was done with a previous coil stop. The current one looks fairly new. According to the manual, it is the correct coil type. And it doesn't look like the assembly or the ball guide has ever been moved. However there is quite a lot of ...

Re: Centaur ball eject

Also the kicker arm has cut into the trailing edge of the ball guide leading to the outhole. Presumably the guide and/or the kicker mechanism is not mounted in exactly the right location?

Re: Centaur ball eject

I took apart the mechanism and cleaned everything, it moves well but the spring seemed a bit strong. After removing the spring, it reliably kicked the ball over. I tried making a weaker spring from the narrow end of a System 11 flipper return, but it didn't reliably kick nor return. :FP: Probably no...

Re: Centaur ball eject

Sometimes the ball strikes the leading edge of the ball guide and bounces back. Other times it hasn't quite enough power to get to the shooter lane.

Re: Centaur ball eject

Sometimes my Centaur machine doesn't deliver a ball to the shooter lane properly. It keeps trying until successful, but may require 2 or 3 attempts. It's difficult to see what is going on under the playfield when this happens. Is there a common cause/solution for this symptom? Turns out this was a ...

I could possibly host again. However, it's a long drive, last year only 6 showed. At the moment I have just two playable machines but by the end of May, three or four should be up and running.

Re: High Speed F4 Fuse Blowing

I ended up replacing the fuse and the transistor/pre-driver which the area around it has started to turn black. This is bad. Charred circuit board is a conductor. So any traces in that area could be shorted together (test with DMM), and the damage will keep getting worse every time high power is al...
