Re: New to this... Is this a good "starter" pin?

Hi guys, this will be the last post I toss in here as I've kind of dragged this completely off topic and it's gone on for longer than it should have. I had a blast though and appreciate all of your advice. So with that said, I posed these questions to my wife tonight; Q: "What bothers you about...

Re: New to this... Is this a good "starter" pin?

Fifty, you will eventually do whatever you feel comfortable doing. You should essentially ignore any advice that is given on this forum regarding how to deal with the wife, what kids like, etc. No one here is an expert in those areas since it is impossible to be one and a few people on this forum a...

Re: New to this... Is this a good "starter" pin?

Don't expect to change your wife's opinion. In fact, her frugal, uninterested stance is not a bad one at all. It might keep you grounded should you really get the pin-bug. I've been collecting for close to 5 years now and I don't think my wife has played one of our games. It's not her thing ... and...

Re: New to this... Is this a good "starter" pin?

Some great advice here. I don't want to make my wife out to be a hateful troll. That's far from the truth. She is just cautious with money, and would rather take $2K to redecorate our bedroom than put it into a pin that she'll only play a handful of times. I've been thinking about how to get her to ...

Re: New to this... Is this a good "starter" pin?

Well it looks like the Close Encounters has been pulled off Kijiji. That was quick. I did some homework and took a look at the Sys1 board replacement costs. Looks like prices vary from $100-$200USD. Does this sound right? Your and her logic is missing a PREMIUM reason for being able to sink money in...

Re: New to this... Is this a good "starter" pin?

Money is and isn't the issue. My wife and I both have full time jobs that pay well. We have income coming in from two pay cheques at two separate employers. We have zero debt except for our mortgage. What I'm trying to say is that we have cash. I'm by no means rich, but we have some disposable incom...

Re: New to this... Is this a good "starter" pin?

Oh yeah, you are in deep trouble. lol You belong here. Soon you will own more pins than you ever thought you would. Enjoy. My wife is the only true issue. She keeps me/us frugal with money and keeps us out of debt. I think I'm slowly wearing her down though. I mentioned the Close Encounters pinball...

Re: New to this... Is this a good "starter" pin?

I'm still curious about gameplay. I've never played this one. I might phone the guy up to take a look at it. Looking never hurt anyone and then maybe I'd get a better idea of his financial situation, and motivation for getting rid of it. Do you have Future Pinball on your 'puter? Download the table...

Re: New to this... Is this a good "starter" pin?

even at $500 I don't think the price is terrible. But honestly, get something that's working but might need some new bulbs and rubbers, and a good clean. Start simple. Aim for a classic Stern game, probably the easiest to learn on. My first game was a Stern Magic. Most can be had in working conditi...

Re: New to this... Is this a good "starter" pin?

You should always start with a pin without issues. Pinball ownership can be frustrating and who knows what went wrong with that CE3K and, being a System 1, it is possible that the spider chips are kaput on the CPU. Hopefully not, but possible. Still not a bad price but I can't comment on the gamepl...

Perfect answer. I will pass on it. Thank you.

To keep this thread alive, are there any pins in the $500-$1000 range you would recommend as a starter pin?

New to this... Is this a good "starter" pin?

Hi folks, I'm new to this game, but I want to get my feet wet. I can't afford any of the fancy $5K pinball machines I see floating around here (yet). So I need to start off small and relatively inexpensive. I was looking at Kijiji today and this popped up; http://ottawa.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-elec...

New Guy

Hi Guys, New member here. I've been a member of CGCC for quite some time. Through CGCC I found PCEngineFX (I'm a TurboGrafx-16 fan) and Maaca. It seems CGCC is a bit of a hub for all things video game/arcade. :D I've always been a big pinball fan, my favourites include Creature From The Black Lagoon...

Re: OT: Anyone watched Sens VS Habs yesterday ?

Another stellar loss for the Sens tonight. I managed to attend this one in person. 4 shots on goal after the 1st period. Wicked dull. We are so out of the playoffs.

I will be in attendance this Tuesday to see the Rangers. Hopefully something can be pulled out of the crapper.

Re: OT: Anyone watched Sens VS Habs yesterday ?

Let's just say I almost puked. Being a Senators fan of late always leaves a bit of bile in the mouth. I listened to the game on the TSN1200 (TEAM 1200) radio. After the 2nd period it sounded like the Habs were being out lucked. I don't know if either team really deserved points after that fiasco. B...
