Re: Looking for help to swap Xenon playfield

My Xenon is also right beside my Centaur in the lineup, and it's also waiting for a playfield replacement. I have a CPR gold waiting beneath the basement stairs. I was really scared of wrecking something before I did my first swap, but I worked my way through it, slowly, methodically, and eventually...

Re: Metal hole drilling in Ottawa

Oof, I don't have a drill press in the lab any more. If I did, I'd offer to do it myself.

Anyone that does tool and die should be able to handle it easily enough. Drill press, vice, hand tap. Not extraordinary but it does require a workshop.

Re: New Life for PC as EPROM burner

I've been using a Minipro TL866CS for a while but they don't do well with chips that run at higher voltages on the burn leg. Recently, I built a Retro Chip Tester board and it has adapters for burning eproms at higher voltages. It's nice because it's a standalone burner and can burn roms directly fr...

Re: Gorgar speech board

Make sure it isn't the remote volume potentiometer (or the header connections to it). On sound board, locate header 10J4 and jumper together pins 1 and 2, the two that aren't separated by the key space. Your game should immediately go to full volume. If it does not, then yes, your problem is on the ...

Very cool. The way the PCB is laid out, DC is on one...

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?

Captain Fantastic took a turn for the worse two weeks ago and wouldn’t start a game. I didn’t have time to do much except poke around blindly until this evening. The game wouldn’t start. I could manually lock in the game over relay, and only certain items would score. The reset relay did nothing, bu...

Re: The PICK UP thread!!!

Let me know next time you're in Ottawa and I'll let you dig through the Bally boards box. Pretty sure I have an MPU with incorrect roms, a rectifier board, a light board, and a sound board from a star trek that should work with a few jumper changes. For dolly, You'll also need a transformer and a so...

Also picked up a Dolly yesterday, although mine is perhaps more complete. I don't know how good you are at boardwork (I've seen the size of your hands!) but I do have almost a full set of original Bally boards in various states of corrosion that you can cobble together with a head if you'd like to t...

Re: Better alternative for removing RUST

I work with chemicals a lot, and I'm a workplace safety trainer. If I can't see an SDS, we have to assume the worst until proven otherwise. That's especially true with any product with the word "Industrial" in the name. I know too many people that are dead or dying because of exposure to things they...

Re: Better alternative for removing RUST

I don't trust any concentrated industrial product where you can't get the name of the manufacturer and can't obtain the SDS from the vendor/distributor.

Cancer sucks, and if I can't know what's in something then it stays on the shelf.

Re: Has Anyone Travelled to the US?

I'm pretty sure that it's intended as a gentle prod to not travel unless you really really have to. We're in stage 4000: Borders are open but you should still stay home, so here's an inconvenience. If that $150 is too much of an inconvenience to you, then the idea is that you probably didn't need to...
