Re: Cabinet refinish: Gottlieb Surfer

Molotow Premium has 250 colours, Montana Gold has 214. Much better paint than Rustoleum.

Re: FS: Williams Triple Strike (1975 EM) $900 OBO

If anyone is thinking of getting a first pinball machine this would be a great one to start with. Especially if you like the charm or have some nostalgia for an older machine.

Good price, a single player Williams is easy to work on, and the game looks like fun!

Re: The Mandalorian from Stern is here!

That upper playfield plays exactly how I thought it would.

Lousy.

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?

I've started putting the cabinet back together for my BSD #2. RadCals installed and looking good. Picked up a few carriage bolts from pinballmedics.ca, sure is handy to have a parts supplier 10 minutes away. I found in my Amazon order history that I ordered a roll of ground braid in February, can't ...

Re: The Mandalorian from Stern is here!

At least the Grogu doll is smaller than I thought. Not digging the upper playfield.

I like the idea of spending your money on a choice of items at the foundry.

Not for me; let’s see what Keith can come with in Godzilla. Think Keith will ever do a fan layout?

Re: Cabinet refinish: Gottlieb Surfer

What brand of paint are you using? Don’t spray too heavy to avoid runs and a ridge at the edge of the stencil. I find about three coats does it. I use Molotow paint, although I’ve recently switched to spraying paint with a gun instead. I’ve screwed up my share of paint jobs it’s harder than it looks.

Re: Cabinet refinish: Gottlieb Surfer

Pinball pimp vinyl stencils are not going to look authentic unfortunately. No overspray effect.

Re: Laser cutting acrylics

If you are cutting replacement plastics it can be done very well by hand. I use straight shears to cut the plastic and then sand the edges until they are nice & smooth. Works fine for banging out a replacement. Got a 4'x8' sheet of PETG from Canus Plastics a while back.

Free box for shipping a playfield

Bought a NOS playfield from Planetary. If you need a box you can have it.

Includes an appropriately sized box, 4 foam corners to hold the playfield in place, and a heavy duty plastic bag.

Pickup only Carling & Maitland area in Ottawa, PM if you want it.

Re: Stern IDC lamp sockets vs. leds

So far, first socket needs to be replaced as it is squashed inside; two I had to tweak with a dental pick; one I had to reinsert a wire with the push down tool; and the rest I had to flip the bulb!

Re: Stern IDC lamp sockets vs. leds

I had a close look at the metal tabs inside the socket. On one it looks like one is broken off. On another, I bent it back into place with a dental pick. Going to have to have a close look at all the duds I guess!

Re: Stern IDC lamp sockets vs. leds

I've been able to get the LEDs to light (generally the bulb that was in the socket was put back into the same socket) but they are super flaky. They'll light if I wiggle them around.

Stern IDC lamp sockets vs. leds

So I finished a playfield swap on Monopoly (2001) and found after I fired it back up, that only about half my lights are working! During the swap, I removed the existing LED bulbs, cleaned the sockets and put the bulbs back in. I found that if I replace the LED with an incandescent the socket is fin...

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?

Part way through my first playfield swap for Monopoly! A NOS playfield is "only" $475 so I figured why not. Trying to be super careful and not blow a screw through the playfield, about 50% done reattaching everything on the backside. Never dug into a Stern before, the harness is super tigh...

Take a slow motion video of the ball going up the shooter lane. See if it is hitting something on the way up that is robbing it of energy.
