LF: the weird arcade stuff

Post by cait001 »

It probably isn't a surprise to anyone here that I hunt for a lot of the weird arcade machines. In the last 2 years though I've been broadening my search to machines from around the world, so I wanted to put out a generalized ask to let me know if you come across odd 20th century machines, including ones from Germany, Denmark, Finland, Britain, France, Japan, America, etc.
Every once in a while they end up in North America, so if you see one that might be available please let me know.

Since I've updated my signature again, I figure it's time for a semi-annual "looking for" post.

Right now I'm specifically searching for:
21 (American trade stimulator from 1946, made by Daval)
pre-1950s Japanese machines
Japanese Smart Ball machines
Japanese 10 Yen candy-shop machines (70s/80s)
Freispiel Sieg Super-Match (NSM, Germany)
Elektromat machines from 1950s by Wulff
almost any 1950s Wulff machine to be honest
any other German wall-mounted machines
1984 Taito Zeke's Peak (American)
1972 Bally Continental Bingo slot machine (American)
a purely mechanical slot machine (that fits specific criteria, mind you. But pre-1970s)
The Hat Trick (British machine, 1960s, British, Ruffler & Walker)
Steeple Chase (Kaye, Irving & Co.)
Skill Horses / Skill Jump (1940, Groetchen)
Win-A-Lot (1960s, British)
Dropacopper (British, Wonders, 1965)
Mills Dice

But generally if you come on something that makes you "Hey that's cool, but I can't imagine anyone actually owning one" then it might be up my alley. :)
If I don't want it, I might know someone that can help bring it back to life.

Try me on your unwanted pachinko and pachislo machines as well, but mind you I'm only interested in super bargains on those because I'll probably clean them up and bring them to the next OPGS for play and sale.

There's a couple of those even floating around the Ottawa-Toronto corridor. Cool little things, it's nice to sometimes have a discrete game, with a proper start and finish

One thing I would love to be able to see (and play) is an old carnival shooting gallery with animatronics. I remember seeing these as a little kid. They had either a jungle theme or a western theme. They seemed to run off compressed air and light sensors. You would shoot a piano player and he would move. A cowboy's hat would jump up. And other targets would move like cans, bottles, and some animal targets made sounds as well.

I wonder if any have survived anywhere. THAT would be a cool collection item.

I know the one you're talking about and I've seen a few still around, mostly in Japanese arcades. Shooting galleries have a LONG tradition in both American and Japanese arcades, but around 1975 they started going full-on with the EM gimmicks you speak of.

The ones you linked for sale ARE super cool, but yeah probably 20k!

When Targ reopens, they have NAMCO's Quick & Crash gun game which is probably one of the latest iterations of those ideas in a normal-ish arcade cabinet.
