Seeburg Slot Machine Price Check

Post by Fifty »

Hi everyone,

A buddy of mine is trying to sell a few items and clean out his Dad's place. Does anyone know what the value of one of these is? I'm trying to get more info, but right now all I have is a picture to go on.

You see these EM slot machines on kijiji fairly often in the $1k range but I have no idea if they sell because you see the posts up for a long time. But you have to verify it works 100% as the pool of people willing to take these on as project is rather small. (most slot enthusiasts the want purely mechanical ones it seems)
Prices on non-pinball coin-op have been declining over the past decade (or so the slot people tell me repeatedly), but like an EM pinball these things are kind of tanks.

maybe if it didn't work
these things also weigh a tonne. A tangent: someone tried to sell me a one-ball horse racing game from the 1940s, the kind that weighs like 400 pounds. I explained how they're like old pianos in that so few people want to fix them, you have to essentially pay someone for the job of removing it from the basement. They did NOT want to hear that truth! :FP:

Some questions that should be asked include:
- is it an EM? Probably, it looks like Bally slots cabinets from the 70s...
- is it working?
- are all keys included?
- is there a payout hopper inside, or is the hopper missing?
- or, payout only via credit counter?
- coins - does it take Canadian nickels or quarters or tokens or US quarters?
Looking for Bally Star-Jet, The Wiggler, Williams Magic City, Grand Lizard, Swords of Fury, 1986 Pinstar Gamatron, and a few others.

- It's an EM
- Sort of working (I am guessing there are some repairs that will be necessary)
- Keys are included

I'll ask the owner the rest of these questions and re-post here when I have the rest of the answers.

I posted your photo to a slot machine group, and got this response:

"Seeburg early 80's ... Bally had a very similar slot...
.. Bally Continental ..
Made in the USA, exported to France, and then reimported..
Maybe setup for eu electric. And the coin mechanism will need replaced... hopefully whatever coin was used is close to the size of a quarter, or even a nickel.... then the hopper should dispense correctly... good luck..
Value working, looks clean $500.
Non working, complete $200
Tough sell against some of today's slots."

Wow! thanks cait!

I've been told it uses Canadian quarters. It has a payout hopper cabinet underneath it. Powers on, but it’s been acting up so they are not touching it.

Oh no worries. I don't actually LIKE playing slots, but I find them fascinating as machines, so I lurk on a few of the slot machine forums. (one day I might buy a mechanical slot just so I can sit there and watch it whirl without the case on)
Another person in the group chimed later today in saying $400 max, and I assume he meant working.

Someone might need a new pandemic project!

I used to have a mechanical fruit machine (slot from the UK). While I thoroughly dislike slots I found it to be a mechanical marvel. Amazing what they were doing with a bunch of relays, cams, and motors.
