Ottawa: Pool Heater Installation

Post by flashinstinct »

Anyone in the ottawa area that is a licensed gas guy that can do a hook up of a pool heater? Figured I might as well give it to someone form the community. Would need to be installed Wednesday of next week. My other gas guy bailed leaving me somewhat stranded.

Are you in the West end? I recommend Mike Shurben. If you're out of his zone, then definitely E.N. Blue.

Hello,
I always thinks that my pool is always cool. But last week my relative came to my house and we planned to enjoy in the swimming pool. And after that we went and enter the pool and he said what's this? It's too cold and after that i have decided to install pool heater in my pool. Please suggest me i don't have any knowledge about pool heaters. How to install and suggest me which will be the best?
Thanks in advance!

Gas heaters act very quickly but are very expensive to run. You want an electric heat pump instead.
If you follow my suggestion, plan to install a new thick wire from the house to the heater.
Check there is room in your electric panel.
I can usually heat my pool at 1F or 2F per hour.
If you think that's too slow, you might want to oversize the heat pump they suggest.
In the middle of the summer you will keep the temperature constant anyway.

You really want a solar cover to avoid heating the ambiant air.
Make sure you make it is easy to install/remove the cover because you will be doing that a lot.

Like I said, you probably want to continuously run the heat pump which means you will have to run the water pump continuously too.
Say goodbye to that pool timer if you had one. It would be best to control both pumps with one timer but it's tricky because one pump is 240V and the other is 120V.
If you consider a heat pump, you are probably not concerned with energy conservation to that level anyway.
