Suggestions for new members

Postby Sparky » Mon Dec 16, 2013 11:38 am

Greetings to all,

Here's a few pointers for new members registering on MAACA and posting into and requests:

1- Make sure you put your location in your profile or at a minimum post where you are when asking for something. We understand that many wish to remain private, but if you post a Wanted ad or ask for repair help and don't write where you are located, you will get the inevitable "where are you located" post and save some aggravation.

2- Pics, pics and more pics! If you ask for help on something you are trying to describe, or posting something up for sale, a picture really is worth a thousand words!

3- DON'T BE SHY! There are no stupid questions. Keep in mind that even the most seasoned technician or collector also started somewhere.

If anyone else has great advice, feel free to post it!

I would also suggest spending some time to learn who the seasoned veterans are, and the styles of social discourse and camaraderie that this and other similar hobby sites engender so as not to take it so seriously or their posts so literally. For the most part people communicate online very differently than they do so in person.

Keep in mind that this board isn't a commercial opportunity to make some money selling arcade and pinball machines. It's a place to share opportunities and knowledge with other hobbyists. Be prepared to answer questions if your posts and pricing don't fit a well established but informal model for such.
