Drain thread

Post by semicolin »

Pinside has an interesting feature where a user can "drain" a thread- it will effectively mute that thread from the recent topics so that it won't pop up for that user any more.

It's very useful for threads that you have no interest in, especially when a single user, often the OP, continually bumps it to the top.

Is such a feature available for maaca's platform?

I received a cease and desist letter once, it was pretty effective to make me delete a specific thread.

Hah! Is it even allowed to mention the C&D without potentially invoking another C&D? Thin ice!

I do agree with SemiColin as to the utility of a "drain" feature, but I think the bigger problem is the sheer lack of activity these days. I miss the old C&D days: Sure, we had lawyers involved (never good), but at least some engagement from the community.

It's no longer censorship if you're getting paid... then it's 'curation' :D

There used to be a mod for phpBB that added this option and it worked well. I can't seem to find it now though. It would be nice to block threads like that... even being on here a short time I think I can guess the first one(s) to block lol

If you're using Chrome or Firefox there are extensions that would allow you to do this on the client end, check out Greasemonkey (FF) or Tampermonkey (Chrome). It requires a bit of knowledge of javascript though.

I don't actually want to delete threads, and this isn't like reddit where you just get buried in the pile-on. It's more like "Meh, I don't care about that thread and I don't want to have it pop up on my screen any more."

Edit: I was wrong. Didn't hide the thread from Recent Posts.
