What is your most crazy insane repair ever?

Postby Sparky » Tue Feb 06, 2018 2:52 pm

I had the idea for this thread after buying a 250$ Future Spa project with no boards, and essentially installing 5x that amount in boards... An Alltek MPU, Rottendog solenoid driver, nvram sound board, nvram aux lamp board and a power supply with a new board on it.

... and I haven't gotten displays yet. LOL. The only original board I am installing is a rebuild Bally lamp driver.

And to make matters worse, I will be installing a new playfield, as well as redo the cab.

Because I can. LOL

Post your completely batshit crazy off the wall repairs here. Oh, what we do for games we love... LOL
Now playing in Sparky's Power Station: Way too much shit...

I had some spinner powdercoat and silkscreen was probably the worst in term of money I have done to a pinball

I fulfilled my dream when I bought my first pin last April. I started restoring it almost immediately. Duh, you can't play a machine in parts. For the first year of ownership, maybe I will have played with it 6 weeks max. The restoration is still on track, but I must wait for spring to work outside.
Road Show, Last Action Hero, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Stargate, F14 Tomcat (in restoration)

I removed everything from the top of a modern pin (ie lots of stuff going on above the pf) and some of the stuff from beneath the playfield for a solid shop job. 6 months later when I go to put it all back together I accidentally jumble up the parts, then find I've also lost all my pics. It was a helluva 3d jigsaw puzzle.

Getting a "free" arcade machine and ending up sinking close to 900$ to get it working properly... $$$ for parts adds up quickly!
At one point I asked myself if this was really worth it. But in the end it's an amazing feeling when you power that game on and it finally works.
