So this won't actually prevent the breaker from flipping in an overload condition, it will only prevent you from resetting it.

Perfectly safe, but totally inconvenient. Much easier to just increase the breaker size to a single pole 30.

Yeah thats what I was thinking because you always have to throw the breaker back to off anyway to re-engage the switch.

Surprised there's no copper pipe or butter knives in there. I've seen them both.
