Poker Plus Coffee Table project

Postby enbro » Wed Mar 13, 2013 8:00 pm

I found Poker Plus for sale here, it had been around a bit. It had shitty home made plastic pieces and some broken parts and didn't work properly. I decided it was a good coffee table condidate. It is made in Spain and kind of an oddball too...not as good quality as USA made machines, imho.

I had to make new plastics from scratch. I used a photo from the IPDB as a guide and made the plastics in Corel as close to original as I could (within reason and with a few customizations). I printed them on cardboard stock and had them laminated at Staples in their thickest plastic. If you look close you'll see my plastics are not exactly like the originals, but close and actually better imho.

I channeled the pinball cabinet to make it a rectangle instead of a wedge shape. I had to measure and re-drill holes for the flipper buttons and cut and shape the front section to fit the lockdown bar assembly into place. If you look closely you'll see the coin slot section is gone.

I also cut the back off where the head sits and shortened the cabinet. I re-attached the rear section. I had to cut the side metal as well and cut up a spare to make a piece for the back. All of this involved lots of measuring and cutting and frustration!!

I removed everything from the playfield but left some skeleton parts so the flippers, pop bumper and the drop targets look good.

I cut the legs and welded the foot section back on so I can have leg levellers. The table sits at 18.5" high.

I used Xmas lights inside stapled to the playfield in strategic locations and ran a plug to make it all work.

Overall I enjoyed the project, and yes I would do it again! If I found the right machine to use as a donor.....that's the challenge.

Here is the machine before I started....

I will use the sides of the backbox (with the images of the Joker) to make doors to a cupboard. Just a thought in my head at this point.

AMX - Who is ALJO? I miss the joke here....

I hate to scrap a good pinball too, but it has a bad clearcoat job, missing all the plastic pieces and was missing a piece of a mechanism in the backbox. AND the back of the cabinet was very damaged. Where would I find all those parts? Impossible for such a machine. Hence the coffee table was born.....:)

Now it's actually gonna get used instead of sitting in a corner waiting for nobody to fix it!

Just so wrong to do that to a complete machine. As pennance you should pack up whats left and send it to me... And then I won't get caught doing the same sort of thing to get a head for my own evil prurpose.

There - I have vented.

BTW - that looks sweet all lit up!

All the parts I stripped, including the complete inside lower board with all the mechanicals, and the backbox mechanicals and the backglass are all available, cheap. Cheaper then cheap. Recel brand. May fit other machines, but it's kinda proprietary looking to me.
