[found] Help needed: old rubber blocks, bent metal

Post by cait001 »

Check these gnarly 68 year old degrading blocks of rubber/foam

Any ideas for replacing these? 2 of them.
7/8" thick x 2.5" x 2.25"

Also there is this bent metal piece. Any advice for restoring its shape and strength? I don't think it should have any bend at all. the plunger on the left is the reset mech and it needs to push the metal piece all the way forward.

Could you replace it with really dense foam? I have access to some that I could share with you.

yeah I think if the thickness is the same it would work fine. It is there to limit the back and forth motion, and avoid abrasion to the mechanism.

The foam I have is very dense but it can be cut easily. I'm not sure if it would work but I think it would be worth a try. Send me a PM or email on Monday and I'm bring some home. If you're at TARG Wednesday I can pass it off to you there.

Awesome! Glad it worked! Environmentally damaging materials for the win! 8-)
