Frontier Pinball, grail acquired, restore time!

Post by Dave Astill »

I was going to hardtop this machine. The playfield is very rough. The backglass is okay for this title. It is delaminating across the bottom. The game is fully working including displays , all lamps , all switches and solenoids. This is a very sought after machine. $2600 located in Collingwood but delivery is available for a fee. Comes with a manual and repair manual.

GODDAMN IT, Dave. You have to sell a machine I have been looking for for over 15 years, right when I am in rolling layoffs. LOL

Jesus, I would be driving to Collingwood right now if I didn't have to be careful... SHIT. SHIT ON TOAST. LOL

Hey Dave,

There's a burnt miniature lamp under the the second to left top lane guide, Bally part no. C-937-5.

Boy, I think I miss detailing the machines at North Star each Saturday morning if that is what I am noticing when I look at a picture of a playfield, and I do miss my parts job.

That's all for now, hopefully I am not going "bughouse" yet.

Be well Dave,

Alright... I moved this thread into the projects section. It deserves a thread. And Dave needs to remain at the top of this thread as a permanent thank you for crossing off the top previously unchecked name on my grail list.

The backstory on me and this pin is a long-lost-love story. It all started in 1981... and I will tell the story. It is late, I am tired, it's been a crazy weekend, and this story begs for a clear mind and fresh revisit of my much-loved past.

I have mentioned my initial introduction to arcades as a kid. I should post the video back up on Yootoob. But this specific pin involves what I call Phase 2 of my pinball-corruption, in an old bowling alley in Cartierville on league nights...

Stay tuned...

OK, so here goes the story!

I have already talked about where my whole fascination (obsession) with pinball and arcade games started years ago. I reloaded an old video I did years ago on it. Here:

I like to call that arcade phase as Phase 1. That is where I started playing Rolling Stones, Big Game, Silverball Mania, Dolly Parton....

BUT... there was also a PHASE 2. My mom was part of a bowling league in the early 80's and every Thursday night, she would drag me along. Why? Easy.... Where she played, LE SPOT Bowling in Cartierville, there was a lot of arcade games and mostly pinball machines in the main lobby! And I still remember most of the 1981-1982 line-up.

First on the left was the one that sadly very few played, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Why? Kind of simple... right beside it, you had CENTAUR, FATHOM, METEOR, FIREPOWER and.... FRONTIER!!!

As much as the others had more going on, I was always heavily drawn to Frontier. Was it my love of the Grizzly Adams tv show? Was it the cool crickets background sound, or pseudo-animal sounds coming from it? Maybe all of the above. Who knows. I was just hooked. If I had 3 bucks in quarters, at least a buck was dropped in Frontier. I was Grizzly Adams, for a few minutes. Saving animals (collecting the animals on the bonus counter) and kicking ass.

Fast forward to 2002. I start collecting pins. And one that was high on my list was Frontier. Sadly, I found out that the production run was on the low side. 1850 units. Considering they made 10000 Flash Gordons, 10350 Silverball Manias, 11400 Space Invaders and 8250 EBDs, it was not encouraging. LOL

So, over the years, I have crossed off quite a few pins on my pingrail bucket list... Rolling Stones, Dolly Parton, Future Spa, Blackout, etc... and now, the top one on the list as of a few days ago is crossed off!

So now, my list is smaller, and I have work to do. This pin will get the royal treatment. Not because of value. I really don't care about that. It means nothing to me. What really matters is what the pin means to ME. Not to my wallet. So, I will post (SLOW) progress in this thread just for fun.
