MK2 repro build

Post by foogywoo »

I started a new build few weeks ago: Mortal Kombat II.
Probably the game I've played the most around that time.

I'm using all the same approach as with my other cabs.
If available, I'm always starting from blueprints available on ClassicArcadeCabinets
Then I review them and add some annotations to figure out how I will proceed.
Image

For this build I started with the control panel since it's probably the most involving part of this cab. I also really like the fact that it's modular.

This is also where I'm putting the main components. Because yes, I'm using a customized PI, I'm this kind of guy, see this thread for some of my motivations ;) I also stuck a small tactile transducer under the control panel, those works super well on wood control panels. To me it just gives this feeling we had at time when the arcade volumes were all cranked to 11 to compete against each other and the whole cab was vibrating. I did the same for my neogeo and it's awesome.

Today I've cut and build the base.

And also the speaker panel.
So to my surprise MK2 is actually mono and the speakers is a woofer + a tweeter with a simple capacitor to act as a crossover... I guess we could do better than that for the crossover but since the whole game has been mixed with this in mind I decided to stick to the original concept.

That's it for today!

Today I've made the 2 side panels + the top and the back and assembled everything together.

I've also realized that the lock on the back door is not the typical lock I thought it was. It looks like this, not sure if it's specific to those midway cabinets.

Same goes for the little cover over the power cable at the back.

I don't have those 2 parts, not sure yet what I'm gonna do about them, I generally like to have the cabinet itself as close to the original as possible but since those are only visible from behind... will see.
But if anyone has some of those parts please let me know!

Thanks!

Almost done!
Still need to do a bit of cable management, make the back door, make the metal bracket that goes between the screen and the control panel and go get the plug cover from MrHide :)

I also created a movelist insert, my son definitely appreciate this little add-on!

Your cabinet is beautiful!!

Did you use the bubble free vinyl or the white vinyl or something else from Bannerbuzz for your artwork printing?

Thanks!

It's the bubble free vinyl:

Material: Bubble-Free Vinyl
Application: Outside
Finish Options: Flash Cut
Lamination & UV Print: UV Print Only
Application Tool: Squeegee

Thank you!! Did you use the same material for the marquee (does this material allow light to pass through it)?

Did you consider laminating it?

Thanks again.

Hi!
For marquees all always use backlit film, works perfectly!
https://www.bannerbuzz.ca/backlit-film/p

I have never tried laminating, please share your results if you try it!

Cheers,
