So last week I installed new cabinets in the garage. Removed all wooden shelving. Decided to recycle the wood and make a mini/desktop virtual pinball. Once I am done with the setup I MAY fill, sand, and paint it the cab to make it nice. My goal is to have the best emulation I can get, not a nice looking piece of furniture. For me functionality overides esthetics in this case. Not looking for a pinball "replacement" but rather a chance to learn layouts and code from different games that I may not have access to, hence the diminutive size.
Over spent on the computer but wanted to make sure it would run everything. Not done yet but getting close. My son will do the pf “cover/bezel” in sheet metal in his welding class

Ordered a slightly bigger screen that should fit, fan grills, a cheap amp, and a better power connection socket thingy with a power switch. All coming in Wed. Will continue next weekend I guess!
I found no lag with the keyboard but slight noticeable lag with the virtuapin controller - it acts as a game controller. Will need to investigate the cause of the lag and if I can't fix it then forego the game controller and get a keyboard encoder instead. I just like the real plunger that I have with the game controller.
The cab is currently unattached to the base so I can still do woodworking/tweaking and not affect the computer/electronics.

Cool! My project isn't something I would have done with my son as it's way too much "winging it". I'd rather follow a plan with a clear path lol. One thing I screwed up is the monitor "bottom" was supposed to be on the left, not the right. I have software configuration issues now to resolve. Getting just 1 game working is easy enough - right now only Pinball FX3 works correctly. It's getting multiple software programs to work with the 1 physical configuration of the 3 screens that's complex.

The funny thing is that the GPU fans never even turn on except for Visual Pinball.

Very inerresting project.
This is, in my opinion, the funnest part of the hobby, working on projects.
I wish I had the knowledge to do a virtual pinball myself..... Oh well, I'll stick to doing pinball mods and repairing and restoring mopeds.

I have to say that the wood part is not where the money flows out. I sure am glad I didn’t track how much money went out for this. I am probably close to $3k. Computer & screens were just over $2k. Imagine if I had gone 4k….
Good thing it’s a very decent gaming computer. It can be used elsewhere if I get tired of v-pinballing. Also, the guts could just get thrown into a full sized cabinet and would work just the same (at 2k).
I can certainly understand why full size V-Pins are selling in the$8k range. Add some large 4k screens and a WPC cab to my build and it gets close to $5-6k...
It’s more about “can I do this” than “I really need this”….
