Well this place was amazing http://www.tilttoronto.com/
$5 cover, all games on free play, variety of inexpensive pub food, ridiculously good beer selection, booths for eating, couches for console games..
Oh and most of the pins were very well dialed in.

Spent 4 hours here and had a blast. Can't wait to go back.

Oh, they moved from 296 Brunswick! (Well, pushed-out. :x)

Great news! Hope this location works well for them too.

You obviously weren't there on a Friday or Saturday night! I went on Good Friday and the place was packed. Felt much less crowded than the last location, though, which was nice.

Definitely worth a visit, but I recommend avoiding peak times, if you can. Unless you feel like watching individuals put in 4-player games, flip both flippers until they get bored, then walk away (usually about ball 2 on player 3). I'm exaggerating a little bit, but not much. I ended up teaching people how to play 2-player games, just so I could get some time in on the machines.

Yeah the freeplay model is a great value, but leads to those "pinball convention newbs" issues like you mentioned. I was there on Sunday night and there were lots of people, but yeah I can only stand the freeplay when things aren't crazy packed.
Same goes for Targ Freeplay, really.
