What causes color fading?

Post by GILV »

Hey everyone.
I just moved in a new appartement and I have to install my pins beside a window (no room anywhere else) I cover both games with a tarp I used for mopeds in another life.....
The sun comes in from the window only 2 or 3 hours a day at the end of the afternoon so I placed the tard so that the sun does'nt hit directly on the games, either on the cabinets or the playfields (see pics) but can color fade even if it is'nt directly in the sun, only from daylight?
Thanks for the information.
Claude.

I always thought it was the UV rays. It is much worst with direct sun rays hitting the cabinet. About the ambient light, I would personally not worry about reflections unless you have glass or mirrors in the room but that's just me.

Thanks for your opinion.
RFM has 8 coats of automotive clearcoat, would the CC block the UV rays in you opinion?
Maybe I can just forget about laying a tarp on the RFM?

If it matters to you, it would be easy to improve your setup for cheap, for example, a picnic ground towel is totally opaque with a metallic under surface.
You can also consider a more expensive solution like this commercial product https://www.amazon.ca/Pinskin-Protector ... B00ACNW7EC
They call it a dust cover but it works equally well for sunlight. That's expensive but it might be worth it for TZ squatting in your living room.
(That's the first one I saw. Don't take that as a recommendation. I've never even came close to one. Do your research.)
Unfortunately, the RFM is not a standard form factor, so commercial products won't work.

I would look into installing a good quality window film with UV protection built in. That alone might be enough when combined with the clear coat u have.
