GREETINGS TO ALL!

Well, following many debates on the subject, I have finally created a thread for news on YOU, maaca members! In the past, we had (and still have!) the "What did You Do Today" thread which began as a techincal thread with tips and hobby-stuff. Along the way, the thread had more and more posts about the people... what was going on with them in their lives that was not necessarily hobby-related. I thought this was great, as it brought us all a little closer by getting to know each other a bit more through snapshots of their lives, thoughts and experiences. BUT... with all the various info in the one thread, it kinda became lost, which was a damn shame.

So... now we have this thread, the MAACA DAILY NEWS! This thread is about all of you. Call it a community blog, if you will. Talk about your crappy day at work... a massive power outage at home... your kids doing something amazing (don't they always?)... something that got you thinking... or even introduce yourself to the group!

So, for the next few days, I will be sorting through the "What Did You Do Today in the Hobby" thread (yup... all 116 pages of it)and transferring any post that is more "people" related.

Thanks to all for your great input on this!

I started this post last night, but was way too out of it to finish, so here is what I did yesterday.

Ordered a bunch of stuff from several suppliers yesteday at work and answered the phone which wouldn't shut up, which is fine, and a good sign overall. Suffice to say that the work day was pretty solid to put it mildly.

After work I went to help out a new MAACA memeber with his first pinball. He had wondered into Starburst MTL a month ago or so and wanted to buy parts to build his own machine as a project he was working on with his son using the Zizzle platform. He bought a couple of flippers and some misc. parts and we got talking. I told him about MAACA and how he could probably get some help there (or at least a good laugh) since I really didn't have the time required to properly talk "hobby & projects" at work.

So a couple of weeks go by and I guess he realized that building your own pin is a hell of alot of work as PinGeorge can atest to (or may not admit, I don't know, we should ask him ). So he took my advice to buy a junker and modify it. Slyvain signed up on MAACA, watched the Kijiji ads and made a purchase. I helped him to get the machine started and playing yesterday and we spent a good hour laughing and talking about the way these machines have affected or lives for the past few decades and how they have now become a source of refuge from our daily lives, instead of the distraction they were in the earlier phases of our lives. Whether it be playing or fixing them or both, we knew that these things would be part of our lives for a while yet. As family men with responsibilities and daily pressures, we both agreed that these things were a fairly harmless way to get a break from it all. Then I told him about what I see & observe at every MPL night I attend, - a bunch of guys blowing off steam laughing, kidding and playing around like jack-asses and generally just having a blast as they relive all sorts of moments.

Just do like I did years ago when the Jehovah's witnesses kept ringing our door and harassing my wife. I told her I would take care of it.

1 week later, I see the 2 ladies on my porch through the living room window. 30 seconds later, I just answered the door buck naked.

The ladies never came back. Problem solved.

so whenever someone comes to the door I ask them if they can read, and point to the mat, then shut the door.

My 96 year-old grandmother says that Quebec must be paradise because there are so many saints around here. There is even a Saint Telesphore somewhere along the highway, how's that for a "minor league" saint. Telesphore was an "old timey" name they used here at the turn of the century, so I reckon they pretty well put the word saint before as many names as they could when they got a chance back then.

What I did today -

Today, I was bitchy and tired. Hence everything I did was tainted somehow by this bad energy. I am slowly coming to the realization that doing less and doing it well is better than taking on too much and trying to get away with it. Sometimes it is important to slack off a bit. Wonder if PinGeorge ever kicks back and takes her easy. We should ask him what he does for fun.

Does that mean you'll have room for more than 2 at a time now? Congratulations on the new house-have fun with it.

As for me-third pass at filling drywall in the basement on the new house. One more swipe tomorrow morning, and I'm going to define it as being done and start painting. It's a good thing I only tackle drywall jobs once every 5 years or so, because it's just long enough to forget how much I hate filling and sanding it. Almost there though...

Lucky you. My staircase isn't too bad compared to some but I always need two guys to move games up and down regardless.
