Star Explorer home pinball original price?

Post by gmaranda »

Hi!

I just acquired subject machine for my three nephews. For those of you that have never seen one it is a lot better than some of
those table toy version you could buy but far from being a commercial one. However it is made with some of the same parts used on the early SS pin.

I have to say that I would have gone nuts had I received this as a gift when I was a kid. This made me curious..... anyone know what was the original price of a brand new one in 1977?

Tks and have a great day

I believe they were $300, it was the Demolition Derby that they had at Woolco and I wanted one back then.

Any idea what stores sold it? If you find that out, look for old PDF copies of their catalogs - specifically Christmas ones.

There is a thread on pinside about how to make the flippers independent. I was not aware they both flipped together prior to reading that.

tks but the machine I have has already been modified. The only drawback is that you cannot hold either of the flippers for more than a few seconds before the fuse goes but at least it is a resettable fuse so you go in the back and voilà you are back in business...

I know I am more than 8 years late for answering this one, but thought the information might be interesting. I just inherited a Philips Star Explorer Home Pinball Game. In the envelope with the original instruction manual is the cancelled cheque for the original purchase. The machine was bought at Woolco in Winnipeg on December 24, 1979 for a total of $261.45. I believe the Manitoba provincial sales tax at the time was 5%. So my basic math tells me the selling price was $249.
