When familly visit us for a weekend, our machines are in use non stop pretty much the entire time (11 and 14 year old niece and nephew). I think the younger generation can and will get into pinball if properly introduced to it, but its exactly as discussed above,... they have to be fun, good playing machines.

We have a varied league and there was a women's league last year, I don't participate in the league as I don't have much skill but I heard about it. Unfortunately there are 1-2 locations to play pinball in the Buffalo area that have more than 1 good working machine, and nearly none in the Niagara Falls (NY) area where I live. There are a few scattered machines here but they are in rough shape, I haven't played one in a while but a fellow pinballer tells me its not worth my time to seek them out. Now I just wait till I have time to go somewhere that has decent pinball machines.

Space and money are obstacles for here for sure, most people in my area there is no way they can afford their own machine (most people here can barely afford living expenses), and neither can I, I simply have no where to put it, there is only street parking in my area, and I don't have a garage on my property.
If you're on your way to NYC, you should check out Robot City Games and Arcade in Binghamton, NY -- I was there in 2011 at its old location, and since then the arcade has grown massively in its new digs:

I was out at Karters Korners and a kid walked up to Rollergames and asked his dad, "is this a big plinko?" and his dad told him that it was a pinball and showed him that you shoot the ball with the plunger and what you use the flippers for. The kid said "Oh, I love pinball. Can I play a game?" And so he did and had a smile on his face the whole time.

That was great!

I have heard about this place, it sounds extremely cool, however I don't think I will be passing it anytime soon in my life, but I will keep it in mind in case I ever go out that way.

Yes, there is people under 30 enjoying some good old silverball pleasures but it's definitively a minority... For me, it's not a problem. Years past... Toys change that's all. I remember playing few video games with my kids on computer back in the days. Remember Sim Ants, Lemmings, Descent and others? As we were looking at all those disks their eyes were filled with souvenirs and nostalgia they were begging to me; please dad don't throw those games away. For me, they were old stupid games but for them it was their toys and those games was their key to that time machine...

Then I push my thinking a little further. Imagine them in the future having an old 486 DX loaded with few of those games trying to get their kid enjoying them or worse trying to interest their visit with them... When you make that exercise you realize how futile it is to think that pinball will make it and how frozen you are in time with them. This said, I am perfectly comfortable with this situation and profoundly enjoying them in my basement. I see this as a personal vice or a trauma from childhood and I live with it proudly.

The new generation will find their toys as we did, that's all.
