Canada PinCon Closing Statement 2018

Postby Chris Silver » Mon Jun 04, 2018 5:26 am

Player One Amusement Group what a surprise. Such over the top fantastic caring support from a large corporation to all of us in the enthusiast and collector community.

Everyone, all of you, thank you. Thank you for coming, thank you for participating and thank you for your support. Woody - thank you for covering our asses and collecting the millions of beer cans in the parking lot. Lol

Guys I could turn this into the academy awards an ramble for ever. I hope all was worth it. I was nervous when I heard people were booking flights, driving for hours or pulling their collections out of basements. To be responsible for motivating people is an unsettling burden.

Thinking of Uberhare and his boy loading the Uberbus and making the pilgrimage put a smile on my face. The father and son bond at that age - the memories. I'd be proud to maintain that with my 4 boys. Uber Jr. is big and strong and can load pins!

Everyone you know who you are and what you've done. To all who cleaned up after the show ultimate thank you. You've knocked at least 10 man hours off my back. I was able to put my little one to bed last night. That extra burst from you motivated me regarding the direction of next year.

Sparky and I are returning this morning to collect the rest. Heisenberg you're a machine! Later this week I'll have time to post a bit more but for now I have a chapter to close.

All of this was possible from the loving support of my amazing wife.

Geester- Don't try to sell me a pin with Cheryl standing beside me. :FP:

Great show Chris. Had a good time seeing the usual pinheads and chewing the fat. I really hope the show was a success from your persepective because the work you put in to pull it off is pretty intense. Your wife definitely deserves a special thanks from all of us. Hope to see you all next year - I will be staying the night for sure next year because those Beau's sure were going down nice.

Thanks Chris for putting everything together. I can only imagine the time commitment!

Had a good time, it was great to me everyone down that way! Put lots of faces to names finally. My son enjoyed it quite a bit too.

11:24pm and the last machine was in the door yesterday.....Still have to setup 5 of them now.

3 hours of packing pins
11 hours driving there (stupid Friday Toronto traffic!)
36 hours of pinball madness
7 hours driving home
30 minutes to haul them all indoors

Casualties:
1 shooter rod
1 system80 CPU
4 stuck balls
1 flipper coil
1 to be determined dead slingshot on SG(it's not the fuse or coil. suspect a board problem)
Now playing....Dr Who, Pinbot, Black Hole, Mars GOW, Star Race, Stargate, Lucky Ace, Cyclone (on loan, now with a certain screw removed)
Now fixing...Circus, Force II

Had a great time this weekend. Was busy in the tournament area but still got a chance to hang out with some good people and meet some new ones too. Looking forward to next year. This time we will book Stephanie's ahead of time instead of staying at Quality Inn last minute. Had to buy a change of clothes and toiletries at walmart for Sunday. Ended up being a $300 night...and that was without the drinks!!

Thanks Chris. Another excellent show!!

Hard work pays off!

Great show Chris! Lots of great games and the flea market was the best yet! I feel sorry for the poor bastard who has to make an article from our drunk ramblings. I don't think we answered any of his questions....

Just got off the phone with Chris. What a guy. And as Woody said above, "be proud". Bask in the dopamine fix while you can Chris. A man has to matter. And what you provided and instigated last weekend mattered to a whole lot of people as well.

Chris was also kind enough to let me store a pinball cabinet in his garage that wouldn't fit in my bosses' van which I had the pleasure to drive to Pincon and back, what a ride. I did manage to bring back the Time Warp head to Montreal for Joanna who wanted a project. She is one of the best and fasted learning apprentices making up the latest crew of Maintenance Maniacs at the North Star. She was so excited when I dropped off the head of this Time Warp at her apartment Sunday evening that it brought back a whole lot of past emotions for me. This is her first pin and she will be going to Chris's place on Thursday to pick up the body.

Can you remember that feeling when you got your first pinball ? Well the look in her eyes brought me back to when I had brought my first machine home in 1980. And this is the point I want to make here, this show has re-awakened something in me and has sparked many good vibes in the community. Maybe I feel this way again because I now have a 3 day a week job which is more grassroots and truly embedded in the coin-op amusements field and history, much more than my previous employment. I am now able to once again feel something else than the daily drab. Yet, maybe it is because I have met so many interesting people through this hobby and can now be open and upfront with them about the coin-op business and hobby once again without feeling the pressures and restraints of working for "the man" and covering my ass all the time.

In any case, you can count on me to be there for Pincon, the people, the hobby, the history and the industry for as long as it remains enjoyable.

Hugs,

Rob

Maxed out at 10 machines, no more no less. Toujours a 10 machines, pas moins pas plus.
Une règle suivi gueri de tout. A rule respected can cure anything.

A philosophy of doing shall rule til the days when I can no longer "do" arrive. Because when I am too old to wipe my own ass, adjust an AX relay or relieve a woman from sighing, there will be only memories to fill my time. So, the task at hand is to build a RRSP of memories, come hell or calm tides.
