Show Us your Woodrails

Postby singlezero » Sat Dec 22, 2018 7:24 pm

i know they have a thread familiar to this on pinside , but a recent rash of kijiji ads a few weeks ago with what i thought were high prices made me wonder who all owns or collects woodrails here in Canada? i know a few collectors and some major restores that have been done on machines but im curious how many have an avid interest or own them. i know too a lot of these beauties get sent to the States. is there a woodrail you would like to own but dont yet? ill post some of mine if there is any interest in the thread. i know there are many interested in the historical aspect of the games too. As a side note, a recently pulled transformer from a Queen of Hearts bore a Mfrs plate from a company where im from Orillia " Northern Supply". i dont know if these transformers were aftermarket as a precursor to those famous door stops Ont Hydro insisted having in place but im going to see if the orilliaheritage.com has any interest in the piece as they collect artifacts of different things that were manufactured in orillia. id appreciate if anyone has insight to those transformers as well.

Any Woodrails out there?

Regardless of the year, some pins are awesome and some are crap, imho. I've brought home seven woodrails and only kept a few.

1949 Gottlieb K. C. Jones - super simple, awesome game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aGPIz6A7cU
1958 Gottlieb Sittin' Pretty - excellent game.
1959 Gottlieb Straight Shooter - fantastic game.

Also have a 1950 Gottlieb Joker but have yet to fix it up and play it. Not sure if it's a keeper.

Woodrails I owned and sold:
1953 Gottlieb Quintette - tough pin! Darn holes. Too frustrating for me; gone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4aOQTKffaA
1953 Gottlieb Guys Dolls - crap. "Pop-up posts" instead of flippers was very annoying; gone.
1958 Gottlieb Rocket Ship - beauty theme but didn't really enjoy the gameplay; gone.

Hate to say it but I'm not a gobble-hole fan. That said, I still love the '63 Gottlieb Slick Chick I have; rare gobbles.

No pictures today but I have a Gottlieb Queen of Diamonds that should be next on my list to get up and running.

Love the look of this game. The problem is - once it is up and running I will be "encouraged" to sell it. Only have room for four in the basement and I can't see that this one will be bumping anything out of the lineup.

My long term unrealistic dream for it is to trade it away for an El-Dorado.
