Stopped at Amusement 20/20, good place to kill 40 min :) Kids did most of the racing game. Try three pinball machines, they were clean but no saved ball...

Foo fighter: Didn't like it. not fan of the art and gameplay. too noisy to appreciate the music, probably better at home.
TMNT: multi-ball festival, with so many balls around, hard to learn the shot :)
Mandalorian: longer playtime on this one, many shots on it, it's hard to miss something... it was ok

Working on Gottlieb Egg Head. Used some paint stripper (briefly) on the backbox to remove latex and expose the original paint in a few places to get colour match and prepare for scanning to create laser-cut stencils.

I'm working my way through the motor board, these Gottlieb parts clean up nicely. What is the gold-coloured plating they have?

Bought $100 worth of slotted nickel-plated wood screws to replace existing screws.

Speaking of HP ScanJet, I'm booting my old Windows laptop again and applying endless security updates so I can use the scanner. Doesn't work on the Mac.

In case anyone is wondering, the scanner does work on Windows 11. You just need to install the Vista 64bit driver through compatibility mode and then it works.

Almost done fixing a Gottlieb Jacks Open. Replaced all drop targets, tightened/adjusted all contacts.
Initially drop targets did not score any points with no top inlane scored. Did some troubleshooting and found that
the score motor 4B NC switch was open. That switch is very difficult to see and access. Buried! Fixed now.
The drop targets sequencing on this game is quite an ingenious and fun design, impressive for an EM !
Looking for Bally Star-Jet, The Wiggler, Williams Magic City, Grand Lizard, Swords of Fury, 1986 Pinstar Gamatron, and a few others.
Collecting & repairing electro-mechanical and solid state pinball machines with quality and care for 40+ years already.
Serious and fun hobby, powerful nostalgia !

According to Pinside this is how you do it.. I haven’t tried yet.

Use HP flatbed scanner with 20% overlap, lets Photoshop easily stitch the scans together.

is your scanner such that the glasses are touching? Or is there an air gap between your scan bed and the piece you're scanning? And how does that effect things?
Have you tried any tests yet?

I have the HP4600 and, years ago, I did a bunch of cabinet scans for Pinball Pimp. It's great but I found that there's a slight blur and one has to be very careful with placement when letting it scan; make sure it is very level or there's distortion. Scans are not perfect with regards to colour and/or replication but it's great and handy. Heck, what else is there? Maybe the HP4670 is better. I dunno.

I did the largest arcade exploration yet, documenting all the machines in a 1992 documentary on the worldwide origins of pachinko, featuring some of the most famous collector/historians of the 20th century.
exploring the arcade in 1992-01 TVムック故郷は欧州 意外なパチンコ進化論 / TV Mook Mystery Journey: Surprising theory of pachinko evolution
https://pinballnovice.blogspot.com/2023 ... -mook.html

There is a link there to watch the documentary. It took me a long time but me and some friends translated it. Main post on that here: https://pinballnovice.blogspot.com/2023 ... stery.html

put up a new scan of a Japanese book about the global history of pachinko

I was consulted about this article in Poland on the history of table games for PSX Extreme magazine: https://pinballnovice.blogspot.com/2023 ... telle.html

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?

Finally got around to shopping out my Tron LE. Is there a dirtier game than Tron as a result of the black disc? The black stuff gets everywhere. So with around 3k plays it was time. Fortunately it is a relatively easy game to disassemble. Replaced all the black rubber with black silicone, replaced the GI bulbs with LEDs, added plastic protectors, cleaned everything, a few coats of wax and back together. Didn't need to completely rebuild the flippers as they were still good, just replaced the coil sleeves. Now just waiting on the clear disk before I fire it up again. No way am I playing until that black disk is removed.
