It's about time!
We should see more games out in public places because of this

Cineplex has been soliciting the Québec government's Régie des Alcools et des Courses for years, and now with the Legault government, it has finally happened. Less fees to operate the equipment that will fill the Player One Rec Rooms in our province. Redemption games etc. These Rec Rooms already exist in other provinces, and they will bring new business to Québec. The good thing is that the Legault governement also made it eaiser for small operators, not just the biggest one in Canada.

What this means on a more homegrown level, is that it opens the path for more operators to place their equipment, and more importantly, to be able to rotate without always thinking about permit costs which are not transferable from one machine to another. So machines lose money simply by being off the road for one reason or another. This is great for Québec operators,- the ones that are left, and the next generation of operators. This may also make it easier for those who want to get into operating.

I am pumped and I think this will simply encourage the business.

@Honey Badger - the vignettes that are afixed to most amusement equipment in Québec will no longer be necessary except for a few categories, but for us it means more pinball out in the field with less operating costs.

Maxed out at 10 machines, no more no less. Toujours a 10 machines, pas moins pas plus.
Une règle suivi gueri de tout. A rule respected can cure anything.

A philosophy of doing shall rule til the days when I can no longer "do" arrive. Because when I am too old to wipe my own ass, adjust an AX relay or relieve a woman from sighing, there will be only memories to fill my time. So, the task at hand is to build a RRSP of memories, come hell or calm tides.

P.S. A man needs something to do besides contemplate how crazy everyone has become in a world of overly exaggerated self-importance upheld and maintained by the new dumb.

This will change the landscape of the Quebec arcade scene, BIG TIME. This was one of the main reasons why arcades closed back in the day.

This is probably the BIGGEST news we have heard here in a while!!

Sorry guys, I do apologize as I modified the titles in order to avoid confusion.

But I get where Chris was going with this. Prices may once again go up as many people wanting to enter the operator market may snatch up a lot of games.

So... bring money tonight at the MPL. Support Alouette for hosting an event. ;)

Just so we're understanding it, when were the licensing fees introduced? Are the old laws legacy of the 80s arcade boom?

Yup, $343 per machine. And as Rob mentioned, non transferable. So if you had a pin off route for a few months being serviced, you still paid the yearly fee and couldn't transfer the license to another game.
On top of that, operators were obviously also expected to pay income tax on the revenue generated by the machine... so it was tough to make a profit operating games

Time moves fast, bureaucracy moves much slower. Glad another archaic arcade rule has been cleared off the books!
