FFS... I am not that old... LOL

Postby Sparky » Thu Nov 07, 2019 1:30 pm

Not as funny as the thread on the poor guy commenting about the gay porn ads popping up on his computer, or someone getting ads for Yaroslava the Ukrainian hooker, but I thought this was funny, especially with my 46th b-day coming up...

FFS, I am not THAT old. LOL

One more "thing" to watch out for on the road as if it wasn't already difficult to navigate the potholes in Montreal and the pedestrians, and the bikers, and the hipsters on all sorts of mobility devices and everyone claiming the road they are on as their own. It is getting self righteous, tense and more than a little bit weird out there. The rules that help keep order are not clear yet.

It seems that in the last year or so there are more and more devices on wheels claiming space on the precarious streets of downtown Montreal. It is getting very complicated and drivers are getting crazy nervous/impatient. Add to that boomers in their own private capsules on wheels and we are in for some serious trouble as things get more hairy.

When the end of our civilization begins showing more signs of decline, these manifestations will appear first and more prominently in our cities.

Yikes !

A philosophy of doing shall rule til the days when I can no longer "do" arrive. Because when I am too old to wipe my own ass, adjust an AX relay or relieve a woman from sighing, there will be only memories to fill my time. So, the task at hand is to build a RRSP of memories, come hell or calm tides.

P.S. A man needs something to do besides contemplate how crazy everyone has become in a world of overly exaggerated self-importance upheld and maintained by the new dumb.

Well, I have 2 legs and intend to use them as long as possible. I will not end up like these characters in the Disney movie Wall-E...

I see all these "old" people (by "old" I mean early 60's, sarcastically) that just give up walking and start the atrophy process with these "mobility" doohickys. They sell you on how these help your mobility... I call bullshit. I think it is the opposite. Take a fucking walk every day. You will see that 500ft can turn into a 5km easy walk in a short time.

Sure, if you have a health problem or something, fine. But that dude on the ad looks pretty healthy to me.

Even my 74 year old dad systematically refuses to use a golf cart on the golf course. Even he knows... use it or lose it.

So I say FUCK GETTING OLD. I play pinball, I walk, and I still choke the chicken.

TMI? LOL

LOL. Great thread. I travel to two large trade shows every year and work my ass off for two weeks. Lately, after I've returned home, my body has taken more time than normal to recover. I just turned 46, but things stopped healing quickly a long time ago. Anyway, after the show I was recovering and feeling a lot more my age than normal. That week, I had to bring my car in for a repair and when I walked into the Mom & Pop shop their was a older gentleman sitting at his desk scarfing down a Whopper.

He said, "What can I do for you young fella?"

to which I replied, "I don't know if young is the word I would have used".

He turned his head away from the Whopper, and looked at me over his shoulder and said "Are you under 70?!"

That pretty much cured me of feeling "my age" right there on the spot. He put me in my place and snapped me out of thinking the way I had been thinking. He was of course 100% right. I consider myself 46 years young now.

Slow down lad. [I can say that]...I've seen more elderly people curl up and lose abilities because they were too proud to make a natural progression. I bought my Mom a walker back in her early 70's to replace her cane, she complained all the time about sore hips, no energy, etc, etc, but within months she was walking all day long. The walker gave her the courage to still push herself knowing she could rest when required. Mom will be 92 this Christmas and still has, and uses the walker, as much as she can.

Key thought is "natural progression" , the folks you see are just being lazy and would have probably used those in their 40's if they could have.....

A walker is there to assist you in walking... not like a golf cart to do it for you... LOL... and as I type this, the ad is new and improved... LOL

" Growing old only leads to dyin, and dyin to me dont sound like all that much fun" ( J.C. Mellencamp)

I am also in the shadow of a half century.
Dont care, I'm only as old as I feel.
Working construction for 25+ years can/ has taken a toll. Doesn't matter.
Keep moving, it's a fact.
Don't grow up, it's a lie.
Hemmingway ( drunken fool ) said it best.
" health, is made to be spent "

.It (health )most likely will proportionately diminish with age for most of us.
Embrace it or fight it, doent matter.
The inevitability of growing " older" ................
.I will never take one day for granted.
Too many of my friends never got the chance.
Going to play pinball now,
Shane. "Just because I love pinball doesn't mean I'm any good".

Quoting Mellencamp and Hemingway in a single post... Damn.
Puts you dangerously close to sparing with RAB and a few others...

My Mom figured out hours worked for my brother and I when we turned 40...
She said we had worked far more than her friends that were 65, long before that age...

I feel far past 100 most days in what I have accomplished and still being slightly under 50...
My Mom and Dad in their mid - 70's still kick mine and my sibling's ass's for what they continually do...

Oh, and I really don't feel like...
I have done anything yet...

BANG, I wake up Sunday morning ... sit down with my coffee ... to get my online MAACA/pinball fix and bang! People are talking about Mellencamp, Hemmingway, boomer-buggies, getting old and spanking the monkey all in the same thread.

You guys make me chuckle ... and given what's going on in the world that's a good thing.

Sparky, just buy the buggy and make it go really really fast and make a trailer hitch so you can haul pins (oh yeah and you should dress up like a clown when you drive it. ROTFL) :-)
