SOLD: rare PLASTIC EBD playfield NOS 250$

Post by Sparky »

FS, a rare Eight Ball Deluxe playfield made out of plastic! This was an experiment by Bally in the early 80's.

It has scuffs and some clear cracking, but I kept the chips so it can be reglued and recleared if desired. Or great as super nice wall art.

250$ firm

OK, a little info on these playfields.

These were made by Bally when the cost of maple plywood went skyhigh in 1980. So Bally experimented with a playfield made of plastic. Other manufacturers also tried a few things. It is because of the cost inflation that Gottlieb tried steel cabinets (abandoned quickly due to noise) and Williams tried plastic vid cabs (the infamous Duramold), which saw monitors explode due to shrinking of the plastic in time.

These plastic playfields were tried on Rolling Stones in a short run, and on EBD as NOS replacements. It was short-lived. The plastic would shrink a bit in time, causing some clearcoat surface cracking between holes that were close to each other.

Also, they were known to be hard to work with when it came to screwing into them. If you damaged a screwhole, it was hard to repair. And some care had to be taken in installing hardware under it. Pilot holes were recommended before screwing into it.

So... yeah... it can be used in a game. But there is work involved.

My recommendation? Get a hardtop if you want a nice playfield. Less hassle. This here playfield is more of a conversation piece, as it is rare as hell.

Go Go J-F.

Tu serais un des rares à avoir une EBD avec un playfield comme ça et sachant comment tu es méticuleux dans tes restos, je suis certains que ça serait facile pour toi d'installer ce playfield dans ta game.

Go Go.
