Coleco: The Official Book
Just received my copy of Coleco: The Official Book by Antoine Clerc-Renaud and Jean-François Dupuis. It's a history of Coleco Industries, including content about Coleco (Canada) Limited based in Montreal. There is that geek side of me that really likes computer/video game business histories, so I couldn't pass this up. Amply illustrated with an engaging portrait of the people that were part of Coleco's meteoric rise and fall, I'm really looking forward to reading this one through!

Re: Coleco: The Official Book
I don't think there's anything "geeky" about it. Too many people wander about doing and reading crap just because everyone else does without any enjoyment or interest.

Re: Coleco: The Official Book
Around 12-13 years ago I worked in an office that had just relocated to 4020 St-Ambroise in Saint-Henri. What was to become our office space was still untouched since Coleco was using it many years earlier (I guess in the early 80's). There were blank cartridges and rolls of the stickers that they used to put on the cartridges still lying around after the many of years of the building being used by squatters and the homeless. I remember "Cabbage Patch Kids" cartridges being among those lying around. Don't know if they were even programmed and working.

Re: Coleco: The Official Book
I didn't. The place was filthy. Squatters had lived there and it was brutal. Drug paraphernalia and discarded food boxes everywhere. It's since been renovated and is now very nice.twnotter wrote:Cool story, you didn't happen to grab some coleco stuff did you?
If you go in the building today, they have a Coleco System at one of the entrances on display, kind of a tribute I suppose. On the 4th floor they used to have Dirty Harry and SF2 pins as well. Was a pretty cool building to work in.

Une petite note -- je pense qu'il y aura une version française de l'histoire.
Selon le site kickstarter pour le projet, il y a un message qui concerne une traduction, mais les mises à jour sont reservées pour les backers.

There is mention of a PDF on the Kickstarter site, so if you don't mind using a digital version you might be able to purchase and download in the near future.
Re: Coleco: The Official Book
Anyone get this book and is willing to part with it? I am doing a case study on Coleco for my MBA and would love to buy or even borrow a copy.
Please le me know.
