OK... here is a written breakdown of what I have seen on this machine:

I picked it up last night and it was partially in pieces.

CABINET: apart from a split on the front panel, it is in very good shape. considering the cab is made from cheap MDF, it is a survivor. The control panel is in excellent shape, as is pretty much all the art, marquee and parts.

BOARDS: Yup... battery acid damage on the motherboard. But I have d<seen WAY worse. I may be able to save it. I removed the battery and neutralized the acid using vinegar, then baking soda, then rinsing it off with water then rubbing alcohol. I have to replace a few chips, sockets, diodes, caps and resistors. Gonna order some today.

POWER SUPPLY: I haven't looked at it much but it is the dreaded Midway MCR power board in there... I'll give it a closer look later... but I may still replace this piss-poor designed board with something else. Repros are expensive...

MONITOR: Yes, it is an Electrohome G05 XY monitor. Not much burn-in that I can see. I may still order a cap kit as a preventative measure...

The history of it is quite interesting. The previous owner purchased it over 25 years ago from a Vermont ETV auction!!! LOL Yes, the PBS pledge drives they do every year! The amazing part is that the auction tag is STILL on the backdoor! It was donated by Hill Country Vending in East Dover, Vermont. Sold at auction by an auction company in Winooski VT. I remember watching these ETV auctions as a kid... Unfortunately, I don't have a year of sale.

I'll take more pics tonight.

Yes, Midway’s only vector game.

Nice purchase Sparky. It is, in my opinion, one of the best vector games ever created. Extremely addictive.

I have the cockpit version in my garagecade. It’s one of those simplistic games I can play for an extremely long period without getting bored. Of course there’s the nostalgia factor, as I was completely hooked on the Commodore Vic-20 version back in 1980 (a very good port with smooth gameplay considering the computer’s specs).

Keep us informed !

Yeah, I found it funny that the monitor had a tag on it, saying "ATARI QUADRASCAN" and it is the original monitor. LOL The cabinet on it is such an awesome design. I will try to preserve it, and not convert it. But if the board can't be saved, I will merely look for a Zektor board or something.

:no Definitely a keeper! For the moment at least. It’s the game I play the most when the garagecade is turned on.

Maybe a trade for your Dragon’s Lair… :D

Mais tu es le bienvenu quand tu veux pour l’essayer. Tu es à 10 min. de route de chez moi par Curé-Labelle!

Cool!

I'm trying to get an OR cockpit working right now myself.... got it all working except the PCB, what a mess...

Note that the power supply looks like MCR but it's not - it's slightly different - it only creates 5V and 12V, thats it, no sense signal, etc. So its even easier to put in a switcher if you want to bypass all that power gear in there. Check out:

http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthr ... e+switcher

Also if you haven't seen it yet check out Bill's replacement OR spinner hardware:

Good Luck

Nick
