Stern Ali Gameplay Video

Post by tinyrodent »

This is a demonstration of most of the features of Stern Ali, in a single 3-ball game. Score is not visible but you can hear the credit knocker at 300k, 500k, and 900k. Final score around 1.1 million.

The rules of this game are pretty simple, I've labeled the key areas of the playfield below:
ali-layout.png
  • A - ball arch and "skill shot" saucers. very low scoring
  • B - GREATEST standups and rollovers (also including inlanes)
  • C - spinner at 2000 per
  • D - upper drop targets advance bonus multiplier
  • E - lower drop targets collect & advance GREATEST
  • F - low scoring GREATEST lane
  • G - bonus collect
As each GREATEST standup/rollover is hit, it lights the corresponding letter on the playfield. Meanwhile the lower drop target bank E awards an increasing value per GREATEST letter. Bonus multiplier, GREATEST letters, and GREATEST multipliers are all carried to the next ball. So the lower target bank becomes increasingly lucrative with each letter and each bank complete, maxing out at 90k. At which point it can just be collected over and over for the rest of the game.

The biggest scoring potential however is the bonus collect, with 28 bonus (14 advances) and 5X multiplier yielding up to 140k points. And this too can be collected repeatedly. However, the bonus counter is reset at the start of each ball so it's not as easy to maximize.

The game only has 6 digit scoring, so it's not difficult to roll it even on 3 ball setting.
