OPL 2019/2020 Season Hosting

Post by Fancipantz »

Hello to all new and returning members of the Ottawa Pinball League!

Please let me introduce myself. This is Lisa Casselman and I am your league Social Organizer. My role is to ensure that all dates for our monthly league are filled by wonderful hosts. I know that we are going to have a great season filled with lots of fun and great pinball!

Do you have at least four machines? Do you enjoy opening your home to others so they can enjoy your collection? Then hosting OPL might be just the thing you're looking for!

Hosting dates are starting to fill for the season. Please message me to see current availability and to secure your month before it's too late! Don't worry about selecting a specific date yet, we can worry about that later. Book your month now!

Let's make this OPL season the best yet!

~Lisa

If you're on the fence about becoming a host consider:
  • We are willing to help you with setup, cleaning, moving games, light repair, etc.
  • Attendance can be limited if you are short of space
  • Hosts get pre-invited to other attendance-limited events
  • You collect $9 per attendee
Contact Lisa soon before all dates are taken! 8-)

Hey All!

There is only one month in 2019 that needs a host! If you'd like to host in October, send me a message to secure your date.

The 2020 dates are filling up as well. If you would prefer to host after the new year, I can let you know what months are still available.

Here are the benefits If you're on the fence about becoming a host:

-We are willing to help you with setup, cleaning, moving games, light repair, etc.
-Attendance can be limited if you are short of space
-Hosts get pre-invited to other attendance-limited events
-You collect $9 per attendee
-You select the month/date/time of the event

How far is too far?

What is the geographical limitation of "Ottawa"

What if a host was 2 hours from Ottawa?

Please advise.

My guess is that an event 2 hours from Ottawa, would not be as well attended (by Ottawa residents) as an event closer to the city. Doesn't mean it's out of the question though. I think the furthest event so far was about an hour from the city.

btw the calendar for this season is already full thanks to Lisa! :D

Problem is finding hosts willing to open their doors for OPL events again. If we got enough hosts we could resurrect it again but most people don't want to host anymore since the pandemic

I could potentially host (in the garage) but I have a limited lineup and not all are tournament friendly. It would have to be summer thing.

Well if a new season starts this fall I would be willing to host again. Although I am down from 12 pins to 8 now.

Come on people! Let’s try and get OPL going again. Maybe we could realistically target a September reopening and aim to line up some hosts in the meantime. Let’s try to get back to normal. Unbelievably, I miss some of you knuckleheads. :-)

For sure some of the concerns from the pandemic are still with us but we can institute some health and safety protocols (like no shared chip bowls, use of hand sanitizer, whatever it takes to make people feel safe). I survived Allentown last year and hope to do so again this year.

Let’s try and make hot Ottawa pinball scene active again.

I would love to start it up again. If there is enough interest then I have no problem resurrecting it.

I would also love to see another show of some sort with a tournament or something. If there is enough support for that we can make it happen.

Would love to see the ottawa area shows again.

If 6 machines are deemed enough, I would be interested in hosting. Have 5 now with another one coming by summer (hopefully!).
