Having a Superman myself and thinking of Stargate as my next pin, I'll sincerely appreciate if you can give me your thoughts on the Stargate. I know that it's difficult to compare to an older, wider machine as Superman, but I guess that you can 'relate' to both machines. Thank you in advance :)

Stargate is chaotic because of the push target immediately above the right slingshot and the row of drop targets immediately above the left slingshot. Think of them altogether as an immense pair of slingshots with more powerful kickers. To compensate, the left outlane is often lit for kickback and it's extremely easy to catch the ball on the flipper. It's also a constant multiball fest.

The catch-all flippers make it difficult to do craddle seperation or post passes.

I like the numerous modes. Even with the innumerable balls, it's still difficult for me to reach the wizard modes (if I try to maximize points).

Stargate is often plagued by a weak upper left vuk. It took me months to learn how to adjust it correctly. You have to be ready to make adjustments to your game.

The way to beat the game is to ramp up the super jackpot bonus over time, collect the 3X playfield transporter award and immediately start the Eye of Ra wizard mode. The timeout on the 3X multiplier stops counting in a wizard mode.

Yeah! What cap says!

Although my list of games has changed since that 2010 list, I still have Stargate. Not going anywhere. Great, challenging pin, imho. Superman is long gone, but not because of gameplay ... because it never really worked for me, darnit! Fussy Atari. I gave up. Would appreciate actually putting some play time on a working Superman.

Get Stargate. Best Gottlieb Sytem 3.

Here is another opinion. His review of Stargate was glowing but he changed his mind and sold the game quickly. He must be a much better player than I am because he rates the game easy.
Silverball Magic wrote:Stargate is a bumpy pin with lots of kickers and if you play it the first time and a while after that, you are excited a lot about the action. Two wizard modes are a lot to go for, but they don't make a game. What breaks the game for me after three months is that this bumpy action is not comparable to a good flow that comes from loops, ramps and shots that feed each other.

Thank you for your feedback. I'll start making room for it and saving to buy one in the near future :) For Superman, I bought it 17 years ago with a 'minor' issue which is that it doesn't get in the start mode for a while...so you wait until the machine decides to get ready (usually at least a good 10 minutes). Therefore, I have to admit that I still find interesting the dynamics, the objectives (S-U-P-E...) and the wide body. No one has been able to solve the mystery and repair it yet. You're absolutely right, being an Atari doesn't help as the references are limited and it's a 'blast from the past'. Cheers :)
