House of TARG Monthly Tournament - Wednesday, February 6th

Post by monty »

Hey Everyone,

I'm using this post as a placeholder for the monthly pinball tournaments being held at House of TARG. Details of the upcoming tournament are below.

These are IFPA sanctioned events and participants will be awarded World Pinball Player Ranking Points. In addition we always have lots of prizes to give away from TARG and other sponsors!

PM me or post here if you have any questions!

NEXT TOURNAMENT:

************
Wednesday, February 6th @ House of TARG (1077 Bank Street - Bank/Sunnyside Intersection)
Tournament Starts at 8pm Sharp - Show Up Early To Register!
$1 Entry Fee Payable to IFPA + Pay for Your Games
Win Prizes & World Pinball Player Ranking Points
All Ages & All Skill Levels Welcome!
************

Tournament Format: Knockout/"Strikes" Style. In each round players are randomly paired against each other to play a 2-Player match. The loser of the match receives a Strike. Once a player has received a pre-determined number of Strikes he or she is eliminated from the tournament. The last player standing is the winner. Number of Strikes used in the tournament is typically 3 (ie. 3 STRIKES YER OUT!) but may be increased/decreased depending on the total player count/attendance.

I am going to bring in a Bally pin before this. I am thinking Skateball but open to ideas. I have a ton of classic pins... maybe Flash Gordon?

I can't make it to the tourney but definitely Skateball!
Pins: Spirit, Centaur II, Af-Tor, Avatar, Embryon, Timeline, Baby Pac Man, SkyJump, Night Moves, Split Second
Gone: Space Station, Top Score, Flash Gordon, Solar Fire, Haunted House, Fire (x2), Vector, Bally Playboy, Tropic Isle, Beat the Clock, Blue-Chip, Disco, Punk!, Lightning, Time Fantasy, 8 Ball Deluxe LE, Double Dragon, Stellar Wars, Alien Poker, Panthera, Elektra, Blackout, Black Hole, Black Knight, Silverball Mania
WTB: Medieval Madness, Rush
Its better to have played and lost than never to have played at all.

Flash Gordon would be the better tournament game. definitely a fast and furious pin. Skateball is fun (and would probably earn reasonably well at TARG) but it has a scoring exploit. not sure if it's limited to very skilled players (you have to "alley pass" or shatz the inlane) but it's even listed on the IPDB entry:

http://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=2170

"Notes: Skateball reportedly had a faulty design that allowed players to score excessive points, lowering operator profits due to many free games being awarded. Players could easily hold the ball on the right flipper and make it roll in and out of the right inlane by briefly releasing the flipper button. This caused the bonus to raise to the maximum award which would award a special upon reaching 60k. Operators reportedly tried a number of different solutions to solve the problem."

Thanks for that Monty!

I guess I will get Flash Gordon working then, it is a basket case from hell but I think I can pull it off.

I will take before and after pics, you should see this thing, it is ugly lol.

bump for the OPL crew who i mentioned this to today!

before HoneyBadger complains again about Wednesdays  - this has been tournament/league night at TARG since the arcade opened because Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun there are bands (or DJs) that start at 9pm. looking to do another Sunday afternoon event in the near year provided it doesn't conflict with OPL or the Pub's tournaments.

At this point I don't think Flash Gordon is going to make it. I will be pulling Star Trek out and replacing it with something.

at PAPA they just disable the switch on the right inlane rollover to prevent the bonus cheat entirely.

i do think that Skateball at TARG would earn fairly well given the audience/demographics.

At this point Skateball is the only option, I have no time to take on a project right now. I have to get Star Trek out of there, it is in bad shape.

I'm super curious how many plays it got while there, if you'd be ok to share.

Do you mean Star Trek? Or Skateball while it is there?

Skateball is coming along, I had to replace some connectors thanks to my humid basement. It plays really nice now, all I have to do is replace half of the lamp sockets and it is ready.

I'm sick as fuck right now but hopefully tomorrow I will be bringing Doctor Who back to the line up after a much needed overhaul. I'll be taking Elvis out.

The games will be cleaned and tuned up for the tourney as well. I have some swag from the pinball hall of fame to add to the prizes too.

Remind me to bring some Purell for tourney night. ;)

Feel better Josh!

Monty, I might not be able to make this. My stupid cousin is in town from Saskatoon and my dumbass sister arranged a get-to-gether for Wed night.
