Managed to figure out why my Speakeasy was tilting by itself when I had people over. Of course, it always worked fine the next day...
I finally left it on all day without playing it and it happened. The heat was causing one of the eproms to become flaky. Power cycling it while it was hot resulted in a failed rom test on the MPU.

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?
I received a package today. A very special package.
Seems to be in good shape. I wonder what's inside?
Hrm. Seems to be another box.
Can you recognize the game from the reverse? What's going on here? What could it possibly be?
Yes! That's right! It's a Meteor playfield, new old stock. In fact, it's the one CPR scanned for their unreleased reproduction. Ready for a very minor touch up and clear coat. Excited!

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?
Freshened up the LEDs in both Tag Team and Dragon before this weekend's show. They are now both bright and beautiful and ready to go.
Hrm, almost. Still have to reconnect the tilt bob in Dragon to protect it from you hooligans.
As an aside, anyone who can bring three Comet Optix Maximus in Sunlight White will be a real hero: I miscounted before ordering.

Solved the mystery of why no two meteors have the Kirk post in exactly the same place... It was never part of the drilling registration in the factory. The NOS playfield doesn't have the hole!

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?
Super cool! The position of the post has such a tremendous influence on the play of the game (I call using Steve's out-hole post "the parachute shot": Assume that your parachute is going to open and DO NOT touch those flippers!), so this is surprising. Very weird.semicolin wrote:Solved the mystery of why no two meteors have the Kirk post in exactly the same place... It was never part of the drilling registration in the factory. Re: What did you do today in the hobby?
Worked to fix the weak red bumpers on Heat Wave. The problem was that one bumper was not getting enough power and so it would just jiggle around never opening the EOS switch.
I took the switch stack off the bumper relay and disassembled the high power switches that feed the red bumpers (both fire simultaneously).
Both switch contacts were filed with 400 grit sandpaper wrapped around a little file to keep the face of the contact flat.
The most important thing was that one contact was loose and just flopping around on the leaf switch. I temporarily taped the switch blade to a metal block and gently re-peened the contact w. a hammer. Now it is firmly adhered to the leaf switch.
Back in business, the red bumpers are now bumping furiously -- a good lesson for me that bumpers are only as strong as their weakest link!
