mrmikeman wrote:Removed the dreaded Z-Connector on my STTNG and soldered the wires together as is recommended. Hasn't reset since. Waiting on a bunch of stuff to come in. Gonna make it special (for me anyway). Going full LED including GI and flashers. Going alternate translite (the darker themed one). Going ColorDMD. Going Pinsound board and speakers. Already have an external subwoofer plugged in but with the Pinsound it'll really kick ass :) Then gonna make a funny sound pack with Patrick Stewart swearing his ass off. lol.. Just for shits and giggles, not the usual sound package.

Cheers,

Mike
Just came across this post of mine LOL. I am almost done with making STTNG the way I want it. Got some items in this week.
Completed:
Alternate translite: check
Pinstadium lights: check
Pinsound board: check
Pinsound speakers: check
Funny sound package: check (WIP)
Custom STTNG topper: check
Custom Starfleet balls: check
External subwoofer: blown :FP:

Remaining things:
ColorDMD
Wire the flashers/GI correctly in backbox to have correct effects with new translite. I have everything (Comet Matrix lights) just need to do it.

Moved in to new place. :D :D :D
Our first home!!!!
Straight across the street from our house now.
But!!!!
Basement has 25" width clearance on stairs......yikes, standard pin width is 22"........

Ceiling in basement is only 74 inches in most areas. My road kings is 74.5".......yikes.

This makes it very difficult for pins......plausible but difficult.
Spent last decade wedging pins in between floor joists so they'd fit in basement...... no more! :FP:  :? :(

Solution?
Insulate poolhouse immediately! :!: ( green building, thinking hot pink exterior)
Its 13' x 20' so I figure 4 pins at least, a bar
( non alcoholic, for me anyway.)
and some seating,,,,maybe....if room.

Trying to complete pinhouse in between interior renovations so wifey wont notice......... :FP:

Please say a pinball prayer for me, winters coming and I've 17 days left to get er done!

( er being 50+ gallons of painting, 1500ft 2 of flooring, close pool, new shingles, new furnace and hot water tank, 11 new windows and a bunch of other stuff I cant afford or don't have time for......)

Next post will have pins in new house, promise. ( or I'll die trying )

Looks like my nib pin won't be for awhile........
Wife and kids are happy so I guess I'm doing something right.....

Couldn't have done this without pinball and Maaca. Seriously........
I quit drinking 7 years ago, I was/ am an alcoholic.
Got into pins/maaca almost immediately after and it's been a tremendous positive experience which allows me an " outlet " .
If no one told you today that they love you maaca peeps,,,,, well I fikn love ya.

Stay sexy.......

That's going to be a nice pool cave . Add some black with the pink and we have bally playboy colors . It's going to be lots of work but the results will be so rewarding .
Good luck with the reno's .

I have been spending a lot of time researching coin-op games from around the world, with a focus on pre-WW2.
Here are some of the more recent books I've been digging through. Thank goodness for Translation apps as only one is in english.

So yesterday I wanted to find a certain pinball manual and I remembered I used to have a bunch hidden on my old website. Found my backup. Found the manual I needed. Also found out I have 500 manuals in pdf!

Then I started going through my old website. Wow.. I had pins I didn't remember!!! I had 2 levels at the time. Those that make into the garage and those that make it in the house. I didn't realize STTNG had made it in the house back then(My dad had STTNG so I didn't see the point of having the same game). I remembered Meteor made it in the house but forgot about Galaxy. I forgot I had a Flintstones for a while. I had forgotten how beat up my MB was(hole wear, cab wear, flipper wear). Eeek.

I also forgot about many that only made it to the garage. Pins like Laser Ball, 6MDM, Silver Slugger, Bad Cats, Batman Forever with the huge ass DMD... Vids like Road Riot(dual player sit-down) and Thunder Blade sit-down.

It was a nostalgic moment!

Good times! :D

Cheers,

Did it, well, most of it. Enough for family to be cozy this winter. Moved in, pins on legs, one playing in poolhouse. Managed about half the renos in 21 days out of pocket and diy while working as a contractor full time. Presently tired and realizing how much cash I spent as well as what it takes to singularly renovate a century old home. ( had an army of volunteers, best kind of army ) Yikes.

Somehow along the way I picked up a William's triple action em. Decent shape, plays fast, great for poolhouse ( pinhouse ) . Its insulated now and other 3 pins just, I mean just fit in basement. I seemed to be cursed with old house basements. Maybe an inch clearance on stairs and in basement once setup. Yikes. Dont have internet yet or cable so house is quiet and family's actually interacting. Will savour this time..........
Exhausted and happy.

Was inspired at 2am this morning to go down to the basement & take another crack at getting Granny & The Gators working. It had just died one day - mpu's flash good but no fun.

Went over the boards with a fine tooth comb, replaced pins on boards, all voltages fine... grrr. Love these wicked machines!

So I start fussing on the underside of the playfield - 3 fuses that I've already checked. Pro-tip - measure from the wires too, not just the fuses! No connectivity. Cleaned the fuseholders as a stopgap & the machine booted up right then & there. Will replace the holders of course. The clips looked absolutely clean & were very tight originally, so don't let that fool you.

Yay Granny!

Nice fix.

Same thing happened to me on Friday at midnight. Went down to have another crack at a pin that has been sitting broken all summer. Fixed by 1am.

Got the bug back hard and fixed another 3 pins on Saturday.

Nice work Xylog & cdnpinballer.
I agree late evening/early morning is often a great quiet time to troubleshoot and fix issues!

...I am currently completing the repairs & shopping of my 1978 Stern Nugent (not the as-is one that was recently FS on Kijiji Ottawa with cut wires for $500 then $650).
Planning to bring it to work in the cafeteria in November during our United Way 'Pay to Play' fundraising drive.

Regards,
-Sylvain.
Looking for Bally Star-Jet, The Wiggler, Williams Magic City, Grand Lizard, Swords of Fury, 1986 Pinstar Gamatron, and a few others.
Collecting & repairing electro-mechanical and solid state pinball machines with quality and care for 40+ years already.
Serious and fun hobby, powerful nostalgia !

Picked up my first NIB... unboxing tonight. Can’t wait!
:D

Also picked up an Escalera RLA-EW stair climbing dolly with forklift attachment.. offloaded the pinball alone and brought it downstairs alone. Best purchase ever. My back will forever be thankful...
