Re: CRT club welcome everyone (No lcd allowed)
Great idea Max , I'm in
I was talking with a friend a couple weeks ago about my space attack crt monitor . I showed him a picture of my monitor ( the picture won't download ) and he said it just might be a bad chip .
This being my first video game repair I'll need all the help i can get .
The IC sockets are blue should i start by replacing those ?
I'll take more pictures of the screen and see if i can get one to download.
Merci ,Thanks
Denis

Definitely joining the club!
I've gotten a bit better at troubleshooting and repairing chassis over the last couple of years, but I'm nowhere near a pro at it.
Did a tube swap on a K7000 once and it wasn't too hard. Anyways, I'll try to contribute as much as possible to the thread.

It's time soon to try my freshly repaired/reconditioned/tested Neotec 27 inches crt monitor chassis. Got it free non-working from Azatotht (Thanks again) a few years ago. Chassis repaired by Chad Entringer from arcadecup.com There's little burnin and wear and i hope it worth the time and money invested.

I'd not just dive in and start replacing parts without knowing what's wrong with the monitor.steamfitter wrote:Great idea Max , I'm in

What's it doing? It could be a pile of things going wrong: power, wiring, game board, monitor chassis.

I had a Tron with burn in, you couldn't really notice it when playing the game. If it really bugs you you might find a replacement tube and swap them.HPR Pinball wrote:It's time soon to try my freshly repaired/reconditioned/tested Neotec 27 inches crt monitor chassis. Re: CRT club welcome everyone (No lcd allowed)
Ok bad news, monitor worked for 5 minutes and .... failed !!
I have too much projects to put more time on this monitor.
I also have more 19 inches and 13 inches monitors in storage to try.
Will try to buy another working one if i'm in luck in the future .

Re: CRT club welcome everyone (No lcd allowed)
My lucky little star already listen to me !!
Found a WG 25k71xx series monitor to replace the Neotech.
This WG is working and in nice condition, no burnin, it's a 1995 and it is from a Mortal Kombat cabinet.
It's a more common brand of monitor and much easy to repair if needed in the future.
I will plug it next week-end and make necessary adjustments.

Re: CRT club welcome everyone (No lcd allowed)
Thought I'd add an easy resource for CRT parts. This site is run by a fella called Ross, he's part of a Facebook group I belong to (https://www.facebook.com/groups/653156894847539/)and a helluva good human. Sells capkits and some flyback Transformers, too. Something that you often have to reach out to the USA for.
https://arcadebuilders.ca/
Alternatively, you can usually figure out the caps you need for your monitor by going through it physically and marking them all down AND going over your chassis' documentation. It's often a good idea to do both in case someone has swapped in a diff cap then the spec calls for. When I shop at Digikey, I pick Nichion caps almost exclusively that spec 3000+ (I aim for 5000 Hrs) @ 105°C. The price difference between 1000hr and 5000hr is so little, so why not get a part that will last forever at even high temps. A 1000 hour 105C cap at 55c is specced for about 32k hours which is about 3 years. Honestly, 5000hr caps will probably fail from age before wear.
e.g.:
https://www.digikey.ca/product-detail/e ... -ND/589024 1000hr @105 is $0.35
https://www.digikey.ca/product-detail/e ... ND/2598234 5000hr @105 is $0.51

Re: CRT club welcome everyone (No lcd allowed)
My new 25 inches monitor need love.
There's few hacks from arcade operator to fix. The degaussing circuit not working, i found some magnets installed a long time ago by operator.
I also fix the problem temporarely with magnets and will try to restore the degaussing circuit and demagnetize the monitor frame.
This monitor is still very bright and only very minor phospor burn

Another week, another crt monitor tested, this time it's an old Hantarex MTC-9000 19 inches.
Bought from Amusement 911 almost 20 years ago, it is working perfect and my god, the quality of the picture is amazing, i'm very surprise by this one, super happy i will make a second mame horizontal orientation machine.
It look much better in person, pictures not don't reveal all the beauty of this one.
Guess this game in the pictures

Re: CRT club welcome everyone (No lcd allowed)
Another Hantarex bought 2 years ago from PinballWizard (Thanks)
Plug this one, nothing happen, no charging sound, the problem was .... the fuse, yes probably a fuse, it was the fuse !!!
This one different, instead of one connector + a switch for negative or positive H and V hold.
There's two .156 pins connector, a 6 pins and a 3 pins. I feel the 3 pins was some kind of jumper to replace the switch.
After messing around a bit i plug rgb ground to the 6 pins and H V hold together to the third pins of the second connector.
Hope that can help another CRT lover one day Look at the pictures
Yeah the picture is like the previous one, amazing !!!

Another day, another tested crt monitor.
Hantarex MTC-9000, slight screen burn on this one, not very visible on gameplay.
Those italian monitors have a fantastic picture and they look high quality and reliable, highly recommended if you find one.
Picture is much better in person, very impressive.
