quarantine projects

Post by cait001 »

What coin-op things is everyone going to be working on while we all do this social distancing / self-quarantining thing?

I have to redo the cables of my Tank Stick since the cat decided to eat them. Then setup MAME on a new laptop.
Also going to put a lighting kit into a pachinko machine.

My Regatta and Kick-Off also need some EM attention. Regatta I have to go over the reset sequence and steppers, and Kick-off needs a bunch of loose connectors and switch-stacks attended to,

Recapping the motherboard of my old xbox and duplicating the hard drive. The memory supercapacitor in these things leaks like a bad battery and chews up boards. Mine went but doesn't seem to have done too much damage. This is the best machine I've ever run MAME on... smoother than any other solution, and I have hundreds of games dialled in and working perfectly. I'd like to keep it going.

Very selfishly excited about the World's Series progress. Let's all just keep our heads up and post updates on here as we work. Continuing our comradery over AX relays, split cabinets, cupped inserts, and surface mount capacitors will help us all get through this.

Picked it up from our dear Cait aboot a month ago. Have enjoyed fixing it all up & tweaking. It had some playfield damage along the apron area that I'm touching up, but that's on hold so I can enjoy playing. :) Almost done & then I'll clearcoat the area & make it look brand new.

I had updated the computers of both my mame during the holidays, and started acquiring updated hardware to work on one of them.

Actually waiting for better weather to work on the control panel.

This week I made an addition to the lounge where the arcades are: there's a bar area now.

There's other stuff to fix in the house and I can work from home during the apocalypse, so progress is slow.

Started evaluating this next job at work today and won't get to it again until the 13th of April if I am lucky, and I am.

So this work project is technically quarantined.

The wonderful thing is that I found one of the last meter readings on a small paper inside, and to my surprise the date matches from 32 years ago (which incidently is the reverse of 23) to the very fucking day we learned that we would be shutting down this wonderful shop that I have obviously grown attached to.

Don't tell me that bingo techs aren't lucky, with numbers at least.
20200324_131735.jpg
So if I am reading the meters correctly, 90444 credits played and bought. Payout meter seems unreasonable low, but possible at 730 credit cncelled. It is a 1975 bingo machine, and seems to have been retired in 1988.

OOPS, just realized that we are the 24th today. Should of started this project yesterday. So that blows my lucky number theory in a way and the theory about bingo techs, but you got to admit, it was a pretty good story.

Une règle suivi guéri de tout. A rule respected can cure anything.

A philosophy of doing shall rule until the days when I can no longer "do" arrive. Because when I am too old to adjust an AX relay or relieve a woman friend from sighing, there will only be memories to fill my time. So, the task at hand is to build that RRSP of memories in order to joyfully cushion the later stages of life.

Personally prefer the exceptional qualities lurking beneath any normal state of affairs. Alas, our day to day is being promoted as extraordinary via a world wide web largely fueled by the new dumb & followed closely by the latest breed of unscrupulous scoundrels & judas goats. So, god bless the fool hearted, the crazed, and the railroaded all in good measure for they will likely inherit what is left of the earth after the screwheads are done with it. God damn darwinian primates, why do they refuse to evolve, even after all we should have learned from being dumb savages for so long.
